Jesus Christ, that's terrible! Sorry about your dad. Your mom sounds cool, I wish my mom would watch anime like that.Kionon wrote:My dad is dead, but he was a huge nerd himself. Fan of Trek, Back to the Future, The original BSG, Space 1999, Buck Rogers, the old Flash Gordon. Had the same music taste as me. In general, fuck you Death. Fuck you.

Oh, I'm well aware Kionon isn't a fifteen-year-old, but why does that mean I can't be sorry his/her dad died?

Re: Only anime your dad will watch
My dad won't set foot near anime. He talks about it in a joking manner, but he's still willing to buy me a DVD or two (as long as I pay him back.)
I don't think the anime I have will interest my Dad at all. I know he likes explosions and gun fights, but I can't really show him an anime that has an excessive amount of gore in it, otherwise he'll start questioning what I'm watching. xD; He doesn't like outlandish plots, so Eureka seveN is out of the question.
Trigun might work, but it might be too much comedy. Eeergh, my Dad is so picky. >> Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Only anime your dad will watch
The only anime I've ever seen my dad watch is a few eps of Ghost In The Shell: SAC on TV. He might like Death Note though since he watched the 1st live-action movie of it once on TV as well despite him having no prior knowledge as to what it was about. Was odd walking into the lounge room to see him watching it. I think he asked me what it was, but he seems to like international movies for some reason anyway so him watching the World Movies channel wasn't a surprise. lol.
As far as Ghost In The Shell is concerned, I might show him Solid State Society eventually since he seemed to like Stand Alone Complex and we have it on DVD.

Re: Only anime your dad will watch
I showed my parents "daydream" when they wanted to know what it was I spent a year making and won an award with. I had to explain the animation, what Azumanga Daioh was and was about, what Yotsuba was and that the two works were by the same author. My dad got all red faced and was apparently embarrased to be watching it. He said he liked it and that it was "pretty silly." Mom thought it was cute and that "I certainly like the ladies."
I tried to get them to watch stuff, I thought maybe dad might go for Cowboy Bebop, but he never actually watched any of it. Same with my mom...I tried to show em a Ghibli film thinking they might like that, but they were always like "but Survivor is on" D:
(Unrelated note, WINDOWS XP IS YER DAD.)

Cowboy Bebop. No gorier than, say, what you would see in a PG-13 movie these days. It has an awesome, easy-to-follow story and the characters offset eachothers' personalities so perfectly it's hard not to love them. The only ridiculous (recurring) character is Ed, and she doesn't even show up until later in the series. It's action-packed from beginning to end, and has a beautiful jazzy soundtrack courtesy of Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts. Plus, the animation is fantastic, especially considering it was all hand-drawn (mostly). The last three episodes are some of the most gripping in anime history, and the last scene nearly brings me to tears.EkaCoralian wrote:My dad won't set foot near anime. I don't know if you've watched it, if you have I'd assume you'd mention it as a good anime to show your dad. Since you didn't mention it, either you have seen it and just forgot or you have not seen it and therefore do not know of its status within the anime fandom as a good anime to appeal to western audiences, or dads. If you haven't seen Cowboy Bebop, I suggest you watch it, it's all over the internet these days. After you watch it, you can decide whether it would be something your dad can enjoy. If you have seen it, though, then... well, I guess that's up to you if you have seen it. Trust me though, if you liked Trigun, you'll love Cowboy Bebop. And from the looks of it, your dad will too.
