Re: Only anime your dad will watch
My mom used to be an amv-watcher, which is how I got into amv's in the first place. I would watch Kevin Caldwell's Engel and some Noir videos together with her when I was little. My stepmom also watches some similar amv's, and digs some of mine (seemed to like my more recent Cocteau Twins video the most since it appeals to her music taste, shooeeeeegaaze!).
Other than that my parents don't really watch anime, but my stepmom would be highly interested in watching Noir and Evangelion having watched music videos with them, thus I'll make her watch them at some point. Though that "some point" has been getting more and more delayed ever since I moved in alone. And if they get to her, I might have more stuff to give her, right?

Are you talking about the Evangelion Engel AMV? That's one of my favorites. What the heck? How did your mom get into AMVs?

Yes, it's a very nifty video even to this day. My assumption is that she probably got into them randomly, while looking for normal music videos on some p2p program. Those were the times where dial-up was the shit by the way, but she was always quite patient with letting songs/videos download over days.SovietJedi wrote:Are you talking about the Evangelion Engel AMV? Hm... yeah, Cowboy Bebop might work. I'm still in the midst of finishing that one, though.SovietJedi wrote:Cowboy Bebop. No gorier than, say, what you would see in a PG-13 movie these days. It has an awesome, easy-to-follow story and the characters offset eachothers' personalities so perfectly it's hard not to love them. The only ridiculous (recurring) character is Ed, and she doesn't even show up until later in the series. It's action-packed from beginning to end, and has a beautiful jazzy soundtrack courtesy of Yoko Kanno and the Seatbelts. Plus, the animation is fantastic, especially considering it was all hand-drawn (mostly). The last three episodes are some of the most gripping in anime history, and the last scene nearly brings me to tears.EkaCoralian wrote:My dad won't set foot near anime. He talks about it in a joking manner, but he's still willing to buy me a DVD or two (as long as I pay him back.)
I don't think the anime I have will interest my Dad at all. I know he likes explosions and gun fights, but I can't really show him an anime that has an excessive amount of gore in it, otherwise he'll start questioning what I'm watching. xD; He doesn't like outlandish plots, so Eureka seveN is out of the question.
Trigun might work, but it might be too much comedy. Eeergh, my Dad is so picky. >> Anyone have any suggestions?
I don't know if you've watched it, if you have I'd assume you'd mention it as a good anime to show your dad. Since you didn't mention it, either you have seen it and just forgot or you have not seen it and therefore do not know of its status within the anime fandom as a good anime to appeal to western audiences, or dads. If you haven't seen Cowboy Bebop, I suggest you watch it, it's all over the internet these days. After you watch it, you can decide whether it would be something your dad can enjoy. If you have seen it, though, then... well, I guess that's up to you if you have seen it. Trust me though, if you liked Trigun, you'll love Cowboy Bebop. And from the looks of it, your dad will too.
Ghost in the Shell? I haven't even started that one. xD But I've seen the first movie, which was really good: my Dad wasn't really a big fan of the Matrix, which was the kind of vibe I got from the movie, but eh, I'll watch S.A.C and see what I think. I have the two CG Appleseed movies, and I'm hoping he'll want to watch those. Even if they're movies, they're something.XD;

I'm 15 years old ç_ç
Anyway, my dad and I were watching Dragonball Z a long time ago, when I was 7/8 years old, I think. He liked it, but now he is uninterested with anime, Amvs etc. sometimes he watched some Amvs that I showed him, but he's doesn't care much of it. Lol.

My mom got me into anime, and still checks some series and movies with me. My dad... doesn't really care much about 'em. He generally wouldn't watch 'em unless forced, but might like the mindless comedies, since that's what he tends to like. Then again he's not much into Live Action series and movies either, so it's less anime related and more of a general statement.

Re: Only anime your dad will watch
my parents sees anime as a foreign thing, like why would u bother watching anime if u don't understand any of this? usually i keep quiet, but in the inside i'm all embarrassed with all the complain they split on me. i just watch all by myself and i got into that habit. my cousins in my fathers-side are all major otakus (some), on my mothers side...well u can say 1 or 2 but mostly the teens. my father doesn't care at all but he does watch my amv's, same here with my mother. my sister on the other hand is the REAL otaku, but shes addicted to pokemon, and some high school girly romance animes. overall, it's fine with me, i got used to it.

Re: Only anime your dad will watch
My dad watches anime, but not so much recently (he gets to bed too early to was it on [AS]). We always watched Full Metal Alchemist, still watch Naruto and Shippuden, as well as some other stuff here and there. I recently got the Cowboy Bebop series off of netflix, but my parents really didnt find alot of interest in it. Every time my family gets something off of netflix (We all have individual accounts), we watch them together, so I have shown my step mom alot of stuff, but unfortunately alot of the anime movies were fairly subpar. I have shown her Sky Crawlers (Neither of us really liked it), Cowboy Bebop (I liked alot of it, but they didnt. I have seen it tons of times though. *It was very awkward at some parts with nudity*), and a little bit of bleach when it is on, but of course you'd have to watch the first part of the series to get whats going on in the show.
In short, my dad watches a fair amount, but my step mom hasn't had much of a chance to get into it.

as a parent, raising three girls three years apart, anime was no big deal.
I'm glad most of the show get subbed; it helped my girls learn to read faster
