I was going to recommend going with at least the semi finalist list since that's a bigger pool of videos. It still provides a comparison to the VCAs because it throws in the possibility that semi finalist can surpass a finalist in certain categories, which could be interesting.

Re: The JCAs 2010: Rolling it the right way
I picked out the finalists list because I wanted to save time for the judges, considering this was all pulled together at the very last minute. I'll talk to each of the judges individually, and ask them if they think they have the time to rake through the entire semi-finalist lists. My instincts tell me they're fine with it, but it will probably delay the results by a bit.LittleAtari wrote:The only thing I'm confused about is, are you having the judges pull the winners from the finalist list? But I'm interested in what will happen with videos categories in which videos were 'misplaced.' For instance, the 'Acid Star' collab in the MEP section or 'Eureka Sunlight' being in the No Effects category when it clearly uses effects.
As for obviously misplaced videos, while they won't be technically disqualified from the category, I trust the judges enough not to vote for something that's clearly not supposed to be in the category.

No-Effects finals has only like 2 videos actually without effects, so using semi-finalists would make the choice for the judges a bit wider...inthesto wrote:As for obviously misplaced videos, while they won't be technically disqualified from the category, I trust the judges enough not to vote for something that's clearly not supposed to be in the category.

Re: The JCAs 2010: Rolling it the right way
Okay, after some slave driving over the judges, I finally got the results in. Since we drew from the semi-finalists list (and because the VCA results were uncharacteristically on time this year), I couldn't get a concurrent release, but better late than never. I listed each category, the winning video, and two comments from various judges I felt pertained to the videos best.
However, I would like to note that two or three categories could not reach any consensus, due to having three or four-way ties. In those cases, I simply chose to omit those categories (I won't say which ones they are, just to keep it a surprise). I'm sure this will upset some of you guys, but I just can't please everyone. Also, one of the categories (not mentioned here to keep it spoiler-free) actually got a video that was not in the VCA semi-finalist list. It had votes from four judges independently, and it actually won the category by point totals. While this is technically a breach of the rules, the fact that the judges don't even know who the other judges are tells me that the video that made it through without being on the list really deserves its win.
All that said, enjoy the results because it took me a god damn long time to type them up. Also, I put them in a collapsable spoiler box so the post wouldn't be pages long.
