Chaos, but I haven't watched episodes for more than 5x and I really want to spend more time and energy into planning. Chaos isn't always turning out well.
You can find me on YT under "Bauzi514". Subscribe to never miss my AMV releases.

The most important type is AMV Baller.Midnyte wrote:How many type are there? In my general thinking I say 2 primary types: The Storyboarder, and the Chaos Engine.

If I want to create something... hmm... special... I would storyboard everything.
Most of the time that's not the case.
But at the very minimum, I would storyboard the important parts of the music.
Otherwise it's Chaos all the way

Re: What Type of AMV Editor are you?
I'm not sure about those two types. I don't have to watch an anime much to be familiar with it. But the best way to get familiar with it is to edit with it. I don't watch the anime 100+ times but I do listen to the song I'm using more or less constantly. Over time as I listen to it, scenes start applying themselves to the song by themselves. I suppose that's like storyboarding but I don't wait for the whole song to be done in my head before I start so in a sense I am winging it chaos style. But I'm definitely not just throwing scenes down so people get the general idea.
When I edit, I proceed assuming that somewhere in the source I am using is a clip that was assigned by God to be applied to this particular part of the video I am working on. No other clip will suffice. It was it's destiny to be applied to this very part of the song from the moment it was animated. Likewise, the song was composed for the very purpose of marriage to this clip. Not only will this clip match the music in both tone and rhythm, it will also lead off perfectly from the preceding clip and into the next one, which will also be a clip of destiny. All I need to do is find it. This will continue until I reach the end of the song. That's more or less how I edit.

Re: What Type of AMV Editor are you?
I think I work in a macro-chaos, micro-storyboard state....meaning my grand plans inevitably implode, leaving me no choice but to bludgeon the remaining pieces into submission and thus achieve a final product that is more accident than happy design.
The real problem is that my imagination is way too vivid - I routinely craft AMVs out of footage that doesn't exist. You can't storyboard AMVs like this. Actually you can, and it's unfortunate I view creating entirely new scenes from scratch as a viable solution, because this makes for a lot of work.
