We have no record of a fixed version of your entry. I see that you have tried to access the server multiple times with the standard upload account you were given. These accounts were deactivated at the deadline and removed. Anyone still trying to use them will find that they do not work, will report back as invalid, and nothing you try to submit via them (even if for some reason you some how are able to send the video over FTP) will be received.

This goes for everyone who wishes to re-submit. You must follow the resubmission procedure (request a new FTP account) in order to resubmit your entry.

I don't get it. You allow resubmissions until Sunday but don't let me upload my entry by then. Srsly wtf

(WHY CAN'T YOU ACCEPT IT AS A RESUBMISSION AS WELL?)

We aren't giving them more time to complete an AMV. We have to have a hardset date for that so competition is fair to all entrants so person B doesn't have more time to work on video content than person A (who would have polished it more if they knew 'hey I can send this in late'). This is not a window to fix things in the video that weren't there to begin with. If I see that the person will have their entry disqualified. QC on the resubmission is negligible. I have done the hard work in the first run testing several different playback filters and access methods to see if there is something about the processes and software an entrant is using that is going to cause a problem for me down the line (and yes this has turned up things before). I also watch the entry through fully two times on the first run.

Based on previous years I only expect a couple people to send a corrected version. Some of these entries with re-submits were submitted before the final due date but I can only do QC so fast. Let's pretend QC took me until Sunday this week; there would be no re-submissions and it would just be tough luck for them. Almost all of these re-submits were for a simple formatting rule infraction or credits.

Re-submissions are the compromise I have had to make for as one person put it actually enforcing the contest formatting rules. As some first time submitters have probably gathered I have a very different philosophical approach to the formatting rules than some other places they have submitted. I would like to do away with resubmissions at any time but based on previous years and this year's evidence that would be a problem. A longer dialogue will be opened in this thread after the con for discussion on this matter, rules, and why I have operated as I have over the course of 6 years or so. When I make that post I will also have an important announcement to share and then you can all grill me :)

Cenit, this next part isn't directed at you but I want to make a general statement for everyone. I want to point out that we have no major changes this year and everything has been run pretty much the same for several years. At no point has anyone opened up a formal discussion with us on the AMV org forums, ACen forums, or through e-mail about how the rules have been operated. No one has wanted to have a discussion with me about the matter that I am aware of in the last 5 years. We have received some feedback, random comments directed outside the channels, and one major complaint but that's been the extent of feedback. The earlier years I was involved I can understand because a lot of stuff operated more like a black box when I first got involved but I think we've had a fairly high level of transparency when it comes to the rules and our interaction with the community for the last 3 years. I would say the thing that worries me the most is that I don't think we've been approached by any community members who've said hey I would like to be part of the ACen AMV staff. For me and Sailordeath back in the day we were regular active participants in the AMV contests at ACen and we wanted to get involved because we wanted to help improve things. I don't know whether to take it that this means everyone is satisfied with the status quo or no one cares anymore. I could be wrong on this last part it's been awhile since SD and I talked about staffing.

I will add my support to the rules as are, Dan. I have spoken to both SailorDeath and NGSilver and I find the rules to be fair, easy to understand, and equally applied to everyone. I believe resubmission needs to be maintained, because encoding errors happen, uploading errors happen.

In my own case, as I discussed with SD and NG, my own file inspector shows that my DQed videos fit the formatting requirements (29.97fps, 48khz), while both you and Nate have found identical issues on the server side. Given that the same encoding process was used on my first video, uploaded earlier, I can only conclude some error was introduced as I encoded or uploaded the other two around the same period of time. What that is, I don't know, and how I could have prevented that, I don't know either. Which means that whatever the error is was not reasonably within my control to fix, as it doesn't even show up on my side. I think in cases such as this a resubmission rule makes a lot of sense, and I plan to reexport, reencode, upload to my server, have someone check it out on windows, and then if it appears normal to other people on other systems, reupload it by the deadline.

I uploaded mine on Friday, I'm just curious of it went through or not.

I go to the site and it still says the same thing about the problems.

Ya'll got 4 hours left!

Oh, and if you uploaded your entry it has been received at least on the FTP end. QC and final judgment will come at some point when Outlawed gets to them.
