My process for 90% of my videos was listening to a song and later thinking, "hey that might be a good match for this thing." Then I grab as much footage as I need and start putting it together. In the instance of my Zelda videos, I sort of have an idea in mind from the start. I don't write down what I want to see, but I can visualize certain scenes.
Many times I let the timeline run, just to see if there are any happy accidents, and most of the time, there are. I've had many great little scenes come about thanks to just random pairing of music to what was in the timeline.
The only time I didn't follow this format was for Iris, which is still my top rated video. There, I had a concept in mind and found the music later. It was like hammering a square peg into a round hole. Looking back, I'm sort of embarrassed by it. Dethmajor did a better job with his Ceres video than I did with Iris (same concept, too). I thought the remake of my Trigun video was better, for instance, song edit and capture quality aside.

I'm closer to Chaos Engine.
I take ridiculously long amounts of time to create short videos. However I have no planning process, I usually jump in with an idea but no plan and no clue how it will turn out. And somehow something watchable comes out the other end.
