Re: What to do!?
I've found that mpeg-2 ts or mpeg-4 mp4 files are much better for source material, as long as the bitrate is about 2-3x that of the highest bitrate you would encode your amv at, for example 10mbps fpor AVC sd, 14mbps for mpeg-2 sd widescreen ( 12 for 4:3), and for 720p or 1080p, I haven't done much, but I'd say 720p 25mps and 1080p 50mbps+, also for 1080p, you have to have a really good computer, and the encoding program you use should support at least some gpu help, unless you have a mt encoder and quad core, hexacore, octo core etc. or at least dual core with A LOT of free time, or overnight.Panky wrote:Right, this is more into the Video forums. You can use a GUI for extracting video files from the container MKV (here), convert that video to lossless (so it's less buggy; there are many guides in the main site explaining that) and then edit with the resulting video track (and/or audio track).

Re: What to do!?
if you turn on the ffdshow tryouts subtitles filter in mpc-hc you can manually select the two subtitle options. it will not work on a ps3. If you don't see subs then I guess you have never watched fansubs, in which case you are too rich to be my friend (sorry, I don't like people that have more money spent on dvds of anime than my house and hummer h3 )Pwolf wrote:

Also, it is nice to have the option to turn off repositioned subtitles for things like signs and editor's notes, when they detract from the image because they are given absolute placement relative to the resolution. the name slipped my mind, but you can see this on a lot of dvds that have multiple english subtitle selections, for titles and subs, subs, or just karaoke subs, etc. with vegas, only option is to have all three at the same res as the video burned into the image, aka hard subs, which can look terrible on hdtvs, even after upscaled. code geass r2 is 720p and on my 1920x1200 16:10 monitor everything is FABULOUS (pun intended) since KFX are on the black borders at top and bottom and are at full hd resolution. I am getting a 2560x1600 monitor and the impact of softsubs will be twice as grand on that. It is still better even on 16:9 tvs, however.

I'll be visiting this thread to see your reply but won't bother to reply anymore. See you in another thread where you'll be spouting your nonsenses.

Re: What to do!?
My original point was, what do soft subs have to do with editing? all of that is done in post... and has nothing to do with what the original poster wanted.kickass331 wrote:if you turn on the ffdshow tryouts subtitles filter in mpc-hc you can manually select the two subtitle options. it will not work on a ps3. PS: Other point was I watched the preview and didn't download it... so using softsubs was pointless

You seem to imply that x264 is a less than optimal choice (since it doesn't support gpu encoding, at least as of yet), and that Npass bitrate based encoding is better than crf encoding.kickass331 wrote:I'd say 720p 25mps and 1080p 50mbps+, also for 1080p, you have to have a really good computer, and the encoding program you use should support at least some gpu help, unless you have a mt encoder and quad core, hexacore, octo core etc. or at least dual core with A LOT of free time, or overnight.
I will back you up on mpeg-2 ts being a not too bad of a source, tho, especially when compared to most PAL and some R1s alternatives. Jap DVDs/Blu-rays tend to still be the best option though. Besides those cases in which only DVD is released, and it is fucked up, and the show actually aired HD (Chaos;Head, Durarara, etc...), or shitty upscaled Blu-rays (Air, Qwaser, Macross Zero, etc...).

Re: What to do!?
Dude, Macross Zero was a very bad upscale. I had to do antialiasing 3 times to get rid of most of it, and then some was left here and there still. It was just 720p and not 1080p, too, and it was so obvious it was sad.Pwolf wrote:You must have a crappy blu of Macross Zero thenmirkosp wrote:kickass331 wrote:or shitty upscaled Blu-rays (Air, Qwaser, Macross Zero, etc...).

I take that back... it's been a while... but it's still "HD" and not an upscale from the DVD, i know that for suremirkosp wrote: Dude, Macross Zero was a very bad upscale. Re: What to do!?
I always use x264, it is the best codec in the world until h265 comes out (joint effort by mpeg and 3rd party), VC-1 is a joke, and MPEG-2 is outdated, but still commonplace (like in atsc and IDVB-T)mirkosp wrote:You seem to imply that x264 is a less than optimal choice (since it doesn't support gpu encoding, at least as of yet), and that Npass bitrate based encoding is better than crf encoding.kickass331 wrote:I'd say 720p 25mps and 1080p 50mbps+, also for 1080p, you have to have a really good computer, and the encoding program you use should support at least some gpu help, unless you have a mt encoder and quad core, hexacore, octo core etc. or at least dual core with A LOT of free time, or overnight.

I don't do multipass since it's more likely to fail in vegas, since vegas is optimized for 1 pass. Also, I don't do vfr encoding, I always use IVTC material, when I get blu-rays it will be film material. There is no need for vfr, that is unrelated to bitrate. Also, can you link to some Qwaser HD screencaps and some good HD Anime screencaps for reference. Of course this would have to be Japanese Blu-Ray, since I have 5 R1 blu-rays, the best looking ones being Evangelion 1.11 and FullMetal Alchemist : The Conqueror of Shamballa
