Re: I would never edit to...
"durarara amv" gets 730 results
"angel beats amv" gets 733 results
"dragonball Z amv" gets 207,000 results
"bleach amv" gets 507,000
"naruto amv" gets 854,000 results
Those top two have nowhere near the amount that the others do. So, if that comparatively small amount is all it takes for you to consider something as "whoring", all I'm saying is, you'd have a limited number of sources.
Edit: and what nya said about the profile. I admit, I giggled when I saw it too. >_>

Just to make a point, this is why I'd edit with anything, I don't really care if it's overused or not. My icon is from Durarara too, but I changed the character around a bit to make him less recognizable and more my own. The same way I took Kida Masaomi and edited him to look different, you can take (almost) any anime and make it seem new and fresh as long as you edit it in a new way.OtakuGray wrote:and yet i see it everywhere. I think you just avoid overused sources because you want to keep the illusion of originality when really you're just doing the same crap with some pictures that aren't seen as much.
An original Naruto amv > an "original" Legend of Sirius video anyday.
BUT BESIDES ALL THAT, can't we just have fun? If you have an idea (whether it's original or not) for an anime (whether it's whored or not) then just go for it. Sometimes it's good practice being generic so you can get fundamentals and maybe do something completely original someday!
It's like drawing from life. The picture is by no means original or something for you to claim as your own idea, but it's something essential to becoming an effective artist. Even anime and newspaper comic-strip artists have to learn to draw from life before they can just sit down and give birth to their own characters. Without the basics they all come out as if some emo 7th grader drew it during math class.
THEN YOU GOT DEVIANTART! -shot-
You can't start out by editing amvs with ten page storylines. First ya gotta learn to draw what god gave you. You gotta edit the story of the anime you're using. Then ya gotta absorb the silent teachings of Michelangelo, Picasso, and Tite Kubo! You need to take inspiration from editors you admire, from editors that make you wanna open up vegas or adobe or w/e the hell you fags use, and imitate them. Study their technique, their motivation, their message. In time you start to add personality to your characters, and you begin to develop ideas that you didn't see in another picture. You start to add little techniques, ideas, and thoughts of your own. Someday, you become an original.
Just because two or more paintings may use the color blue, doesn't mean that there aren't endless possibilities.
Just because there are 854,000 AMVs with Naruto doesn't mean you can't say something new with the same color.
That said, just because you use the color red, doesn't necessarily mean the picture you paint is any different than the typical blue painting.
OR! Just become a portrait artist and be totally awesome but COMPLETELY unoriginal.
(plus. Originality is like 1 of 10 categories in an OP, so why give over 1/10th of a shit?)

Re: I would never edit to...

Perhaps you should also get back to the original topic.

hmm... that's probably because it's FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!! /shuns
And please. Underground is the new mainstream. To say that all mainstream things suck is just completely narrow-minded.
Alright, there's my 2 cents.
Now to answer the question, I'd never edit with:
1) an anime that I don't like
2) a song I don't like
I hate being vague, but it's true. I'll edit sources that are fun for me to edit together. I could never force myself to edit anything I don't like.

Re: I would never edit to...
Editing to overused animes/songs are about as fun as it gets. Trying to get something new outta something that's been beaten to death is pretty enjoyable.
