Okay here are my specs

1.1Ghz
256sdram
HD 60GB
Nvidia Geforce2 GTS
Windows Me

Here is what i am planning on getting

Second Hard-Drive
More Ram
DV500

Not sure if it will work with my mother board

and thats it.......for now

What kind of hard-drive should i get? also what kind of ram? thanks!!!!

okay yeah, that sounds pretty good.

If you want a nice speed boost, chuck your old motherboard, get a new one and some DDR, about 512MB worth ^_^.

Another 60GB of space, or even 120GB would be nice.

If you play games at all, the GF2 is gett dusty

- don't I know, yet I don't have the $$ to upgrade. You can get a GF4 w/ 128MB for as cheap as $150.

DV500, I don't think you're going to run into as much compatibility problems with near motherboards. So long as you have a name-brand board. Doesn't Pinnacle have a comptability list or something ?

Getting ahold of Win2k while your at it, or even XP(blah) would be a good idea.

WindowsME, WILL NOT handle more then 512MB of ram. It's not a rumor, it's documented by the ol' MS.

I would get 512MB of DDR, 100+ GB of space and go ahead and get the DV500, however! You get realtime FX on DV video only

. Well it claims to work with DVDs, ErMaC couldn't get it to function like it should, nor could another person. So it may not be that much of a boost, UNLESS you convert to DV first

I don't think a new processor would really help you out much, unless you wanted to shell out for maybe a 1.7Ghz CPU :\ Even then that's not going to bump you up much. DDR would provide somewhere around a %10 boost.

512MB DDR PC2700 = $110
120GB 7200 RPM 2MB buffer drive $133 - $160.
KT400 motherboard - $100 - $120

KT400 chipset is overrated. For video editing, Nforce2 is king. By far the best AMD chipset due to it's superior memory management (10% less latency than KT400).

I'd ditch that mobo too and get something on the DDR platform.

Windows2000. 'Nuff said. ME is very crash prone, especially on fast systems. We just had to re-do our ENTIRE university computer system with Win2K because all our new fast machines came with WinME and they were dropping like flies.

For HD, get a Western Digital Special editing drive. They're almost better than sex. They've got an 8MB cache, and that REALLY helps when youre pushing massive amounts of data like we are.

Get an 8mb cache HD. Every now and then (about once a week), some place's got a deal for $1/MB for a Western Digital 8mb cache HD. The benchmarks don't look like a big improvement, but for some reason, my rendering goes around 5 to 8 times as fast on my 8mb cache compared to my 2mb cache. Maybe cause it's more HD dependent?
