The third beta is rendering (Main Concept AAC mp4). Ignore any visual abnormalities as they are likely due to the encode and won't be there after the mpeg2 render.
CurryMuttonPizza: I still need to know what anime was used for "Egg." If anyone else out there knows, please fill in the blank for me.

Re: AMV Salad 4: TV Dinner (Premiere at OTAKON!)
If you mean the clip with the hatching geico money, then the source for Egg is Tenchi Muyo.
Oh and, I love the way that the clips are now assorted.
Edit: During the credits, you listed "Kyoka" as the source that I used for my Kyoka Bunch video. Kyoka is actually just the name of the main character. The name of the anime series is Kyouran Kazoku Nikki. The anime doesn't have an official English name, but AnimeNewsNetwork says that it translates to "Crazed Family Diary". http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclo ... hp?id=9236 Feel free to use either the Japanese or unofficial English title, but you cant even find the series via google if you just use "Kyoka".
Oh and, I find it hilarious that I check this thread every single day, but this is the first time in almost a month that I posted anything

Re: AMV Salad 4: TV Dinner (Premiere at OTAKON!)
I'm gonna second that the new arrangement of the clips is really fantastic. It's got a really fantastic flow to it now. I didn't think it was possible to get any funnier but it has. The only one I see maybe a potential problem with is overlapping laughter between the punch at the end of the Death Note/Family Guy one and the talking at the beginning of the mowing down pedestrians one, since hearing all of the narrative is really important to that one.
I also really like the new sound on the test pattern a whole lot.
That Beck/Deathklock one is brilliant, absolutely brilliant. I like the changes made to the Hallmark one too...it really does work better shorter I think (and I actually originally thought the full length was fine)
One thing though is that the transition between the "I'm gonna moon him" to the credits is a little awkward. It's just a little too...I dunno...abrupt with a little bit too long of a pause after.
Also of minor note in the credits that particular version of Rubber Duckie is being sung by Insideout A Cappella, and it's the opening theme to My Little Pony not an ad.
And Deuce you loose serious otaku points for not knowing Tenchi Muyo. Shame!

Re: AMV Salad 4: TV Dinner (Premiere at OTAKON!)
This is looking really great, Deuce! It's got some excellent placement now, the beginning is exceptionally strong! My only issue now is that I think the ending, where we should have a bit of a finale with a lot of stronger clips, is a little slow with Jackass through time and Hallmark. You posted that Jackass got uproarious laughter, right? If that's true, then that one may be fine. Anyway, I'll do my breakdown.
White meat: First off, did everyone/anyone like the "I am the other white meat!" clip? I did that quickly as an experiment, it's not too funny, but if it gets a chuckle, that's all I really went for. Does everyone think it's worth keeping? Also, if we do, Deuce, can you cut it right when the audio cuts? I left a little buffer which I probably shouldn't have, the silence is kinda strange there.
New Test Pattern: I've been watching this twice now for notes, and while the first time I thought the test pattern sound was an interesting one, I realized it started to annoy me. The white noise-ish type from the original version clears the head I've found, this one struck me as more and more annoying the more I heard it. Is there any particular reason you changed it? It's not horrible, but over time it just started getting to me.
Bomberman: Love the new placement, it feels much stronger here!
Geico: I think you may have forgotten to move the Princess Tutu geico one to the front. This time especially I felt that its introduction was a bit too abrupt. I think switching the Tutu one with the first Haruhi one will take care of it just fine. By that point, everyone knows the gag.
Jojo and neighbors: I agree with Moonbunnychan, the laughter may overlap. But I must say, I LOVE where you started the Jojo clip. It felt so much more conversational without the silent moment rather than introspective like it seemed before. Nice cut! It actually made it funnier I think. I have a suggestion for moving clips that may add a tiny theme and give laughter leeway. Put Jojo after Kyoka bunch, because at that point people have sat through the end of the theme waiting for the next joke, and I kinda always wanted to drive a car through the Brady Bunch home ^^ The other move is to take Neighbors from that spot and move it after Jamaica, and you get a bit of an ocean theme between them. Both Kyoka and Jamaica have sort of slower endings, so they leave everyone ready. Anyone else have thoughts?
Slap Chop back? That older slap chop clip was back but not in the credits. I'll be honest, I didn't miss it in the last beta, I'm for cutting it.
Okay, now I'm begging: I'll once again beg to remove the monitor from the Naruto clip at least ^^ Even if the annoying 'deleted' is a battle I'll lose, I refuse to admit the monitor was a good idea ^^ I'm totally serious, just remove the monitor and it'll just get stronger. There's no way removing the monitor will harm it.
Jump in Coffee Toffee Twisted Frosty Deuce is there a way you could cut Coffee Toffee into two and just... remove that little audio skip from the center of it please? It really harms it for me, because it's this small moment of obvious silence, and the clip is so good, I don't want it harmed. Can you work with it a bit?
Hallmark: Sooo much clearer, shorter, straight to the point. Definitely an improvement I think. Nicely done. I don't think the eyes missing harms it at all, and leaving the teary eyes actually makes it better because it throws a curveball to the audience ^^ I must say though, I really want it earlier myself. Near the end the slower stuff with less direct comedy loses interest a bit faster, so I'd suggest considering moving it between the Ace of Cakes and Death Note/Family Guy.
Credits: Sorry Deuce, but unfortunately the way the credits are laid out doesn't work I know you were trying to avoid them expanding into the right side of the screen, but you shouldn't worry about that. These credits gave me serious trouble in knowing where to look. I know you did them quickly to get them in there, but they definitely need work. First off, don't be afraid to put them in list format, because that's so much more comfortable for western eyes. And if they overlap videos a little bit, don't worry, because consistency is key. We can even shorten some of them if you want. In the next few days, please work on these and post another version so we get another look.
Credit Videos: Hmm... there are parts of the pedobear and haruhi setup I like. Pedobear works, but may be stronger back in the 'finale' section to keep the speed up, don't you think? In that case I'm okay either way, since it does break up the credits a bit. I didn't want the Haruhi credits vid to be with the credits going though, because it was too small, and had too little movement compared to this moving wall of text. The eye will ALWAYS naturally be drawn to the largest moving object, that's a big animation rule, so the haruhi clip works strongest when it cuts into the credits like it's hacking the feed. Plus people want to see sources and such, so their attention will be darting back and forth, and the smallness of the side screen is a troublesome for subtle movements. I know you might be worried that it adds some time to the credits, but credits are credits. The haruhi vid can be used to sort of 'reboot' their attention if you play about 15 seconds of credits, then the video. People will then start expecting stuff and pay closer attention. The audience will not ditch the credits if they see that stuff happens with it.
Transitions:
-I'd suggest putting the AMVS4 logo right up against the Sony POS clip. The 4 seconds of the low tone will allow for laughter time or whatever.
-For the Beck/Dethklok one, please test pattern it as soon as "awaken" is done and the screen is completely red so it's like the Fumoffu beam destroyed the camera ^^
-Ending: Agreed with moonbunnychan on the ending. I liked it better with the test pattern. But yeah, I used some buffer space with that render too, so feel free to cut it after a half-beat after "Moon him" and go test pattern. That should make it land stronger.
For the credits, when I mean list format I mean:

Thanks so much, moonbunnychan I'm so happy I managed another one this year. Something told me if I didn't use Dethklok this year, next year the joke would be weaker.moonbunnychan wrote:That Beck/Deathklock one is brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

I like the White Meat one. It's not as much laugh out loud funny as it is "wtf ? lol" and there aren't a huge number of wtf ones in there.Gaelstrom wrote:

I still agree about the Tutu one too....it'll get a much stronger laugh going first because it really is just so unexpected and out of left field (and has that nice moment of quiet). Actually, having the Haruhi one first doesn't make a terrible amount of sense because it's the only one without any sort of build up, so it makes a lot more sense and have bigger impact for it to go after the joke's been established. Putting the Tutu one at the end people know it's coming.
I actually really like the new noise, but then was thinking about it and...those are some biiiig speakers in that room. I kinda wonder if it'll be ear piercing when it's on those versus just in my headphones. Maybe somebody should test that if they have the means to get a big speaker.
Ha, I was actually having the exact opposite worry, since two of my credits (including my favorite video) went by during the Haruhi emails I was thinking everybody would be paying attention to the corner and not the credits. I just wasn't gonna say anything because I felt I was just having an ego moment. lol.Gaelstrom wrote:.

Re: AMV Salad 4: TV Dinner (Premiere at OTAKON!)
That's kinda what I meant, I have a speaker setup, and even at a reasonable volume it kinda hits a bit strong for me. Among other things, it's that low-base zone near the end that causes a problem for me, the low BZZZ, because it sends the speakers into a low base then immediately into a high pitch, which is a pretty distinct range and can hurt sensitive ears. Like I said, it's not damningly horrible, but one thing it lacks considerably is the impact the previous test pattern gave. This is a very subdued transition by comparison. The impact of the previous one acts almost like percussion, and then the steady sound of the reeling acts like white noise to clear the mind. It's a very effective noise, I've always liked it because it is perfect for comedy. Very effective to a wide range of clips. This one feels like it fits for punchlines that involve anouncers being taken off the air or electronics exploding in a scene rather than a transition. It's a 'cut off' instead of a 'replacement' like the last one was.moonbunnychan wrote:I actually really like the new noise, but then was thinking about it and...those are some biiiig speakers in that room. This new noise sounds very disturbing by comparison, even so much as to cause me to feel a bit uncomfortable hearing it over and over. Whichever choice is made, I'll just sincerely recommend changing it back for the subconscious effect of the original test pattern.
And as long as "White meat" is a good 'wtf lol' rather than just a confusing 'wtf lol,' then it can work for randomness factor. Confusing wtf lol I've found doesn't hit the audience as much as I'd like. Did it cause confusion more than anything else?
Heh, in a general way we're running into what I meant. The attention darts around. I'm sure you all may have felt it when there's subtitled anime and there's two subs going on. I mean hell, without a lot of time reading subs, even one collection of subs distracts entirely from what is actually happening on screen. Even after years I still have trouble. That's the best example I can think of to explain what I meant really. It's either the credits or the vid, and when attention is split between both, it just harms both. As soon as someone's trying to watch the video and misses a credit, they'll be annoyed, and vice versa. Miss part of the video, lost for the rest of it. I just think we have to be aware of that.Ha, I was actually having the exact opposite worry, since two of my credits (including my favorite video) went by during the Haruhi emails I was thinking everybody would be paying attention to the corner and not the credits. OOF. Sorry, I was away for the weekend and traveled all day yesterday. I used Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki.
(My first anime obsession... I blame it for everything...)
edit: I see the question was answered already, ha. Sorry for the absence ^^; Downloading the latest beta now!!

Re: AMV Salad 4: TV Dinner (Premiere at OTAKON!)
hehe, my first thought is what the heck happened to the AMVs.org site ^^ It's at a very awkward angle. I liked the change to the website background behind the money though, got rid of all the extra crud distracting from the text and money. Sorry if I wasn't clear before, I thought the way you had the text laid out was perfect, just that 'for more salad' faded in slower than 'you are hungry' and didn't give enough time for the audience to read the full statement. This one has the same issue for a different reason as it only flashes on for a moment and is a bit too fast. I'd recommend reverting to the original timing for the text, just making 'for more salad' fade in the same speed as 'you are hungry' from the original.
The pulse was cool, I think it worked nicely as a subtle effect to draw attention. If it stayed on long enough for at least two pulses that should give plenty of time. Other than that, I'd just recommend making the AMVs.org site match Haruhi's screen and it'll look great!
