Wouldn't that be a conflict of interest?
Maybe he meant at the con?
oh wow  . I don't know why I was thinking that he was talking about the AMV finalist screening on Saturday.

People with entries in the contest do come to pre-screenings. They just happen to have morals and abstain from voting for their own video. Plus, the contest is screened blind, so nobody knows who did what. Bringing your friends to vote for your video doesn't help because there are so many other people at the screening to vote a bad video down, even with "cheating", the video's score would never be high enough to make the final cut. The only way to rig your vote would be to bring a LOT of friends, and that's why the screening is semi-closed. If Alan gets an email from someone asking if they can bring 10 friends, he knows what you're doing and no, you can't bring your 10 friends ;)

I guess I'm doomed, then. My video has been DQ'ed at one convention and nearly DQ'ed at two others because of political correctness issues. And those cons didn't run the videos through lawyers.

Well, i think the lawyers are in the screening process probably to avoid snafus like with the trailer/parody category at Otakon 2008. Political correctness is one thing, but so politically incorrect it could create a legal liability is another.

It's not half as controversial as some of the videos we got this year :uhoh: I'm more concerned about corporations with more money, trying to sue corporations with less money (us) over something blatantly illegal. There's some racey and offensive stuff in the running this year, sure, but nothing that wouldn't be OK for AMV Hell insert-non-zero-number here, and cons play those to death! My position is that if you need to be of a certain age to even understand the content, you're probably old enough to understand that it's not meant to be harmful.

Then that guitar thingies popped up and went dun dun DUN dun then those box thingies went zooming by and twirling around and shit. Oh god, then the hexagons popped up and I was like 'I just got a stiffie'. Then there was the circle with those thingies going around and I blew my load.
