Here, see for yourself - the edges are kinda rough (I didn't count the stuff exactly) and some stuff would show reversed picture, but you should see from this example how it works. You can turn the cube around by the mother 3D mode in the red layer (most on top-left).
It's Vegas Pro 8.0c, so should work for that and higher.

Here's a crappy box I made in a couple minutes
Nya's box actually came out really good, it should help you a lot (btw I didn't use parent/child for the motion, I rotated it manually).

You don't have to, but if you don't use it, count with the fact that anything you create will be stretched or smaller - just make one size a little smaller, appropriate to corrected AR.

If you don't use square aspect ratio, you use a different one (say you are going from 720x480 for 853x480 after rendering, then you don't use 1:1 AR, but 0.844:1 AR) and you need to alter the stuff you import. Most of the stuff would be the same, but if you imprt some pic, it needs to be 0.844 times smaller on x axis.

It's when you import some picture, say png (for masking), so it would be changed outside Vegas, before you even import it ;x
Basically, if you work with video only, don't worry about it and IF it gets screwed, then try to solve it (and we'll help you) ;x
