1080P is dead .. 4K is here to stay!

. I'm not sure what took sooo long for everyone to notice. There's a new
video IMAX format in town. Its called 4K and it looks impressive. 1080P
was the standard for Blu-Ray and HD. Now with 25 foot screens being
released to the public for Home Theatre, I believe its about time for a
new Codec to be designed.
. The 4K name is actually 4096 x 2304 pixels in size. This is much too
large for LapTops and most Video Cards to handle. Camera's have had
this size available to them for at least the past two years. With Home
Theatre IMAX being a thing of the past, I only have one question remaining:
Q: what codec should we use when editing RAW 4K AMV's ??
Q: will MP4 be o.k. with 4096 x 2304 @ 24.0 fps without overloading our laptops?
-- just curious

You realize anime studio hardly have access to tools to actually produce 1080p anime and they generally make it at something between 540~720 as far as detail goes? So why would you expect 4K anime to happen anytime soon?

post-it, you are an idiot.
4K has been around for over 10 years, it's a standard in the video industry. The next big format is UHD, also known as 4320p, and it is significantly higher res than 4K. If you want to know if MP4 supports it, then read the spec, and the docs for your MP4 muxer. If you want to know if your laptop can handle it, it depends on the codec and your individual CPU. AVC is the best codec to use atm, and most DESKTOPS won't be able to handle it at that resolution unless you disable CABAC, which is a really bad idea. In short, don't use 4K; by the time PC's can handle it UHD will be the norm and better codecs will exist. The format is designed for use in the industry, not crappy amvs. Now stop making dumb threads.

I still think 720 is overkill for AMV's, so I'm not really sure if I even want to begin to analyze or fathom the filesize and/or how my pitiful laptop would handle them. xD

"the Industry" is our industry. Video, Audio, Editing.
¿ What Industry would this board be in if it were not
for Capture Cards, Images and Video's?
10 years to come up with a UHD Codec; where is it? That's all I'm asking.Mister Hatt wrote:4K has been around for over 10 years, it's a standard in the video industry.

I would not have posted-it had the same question not been tossed across my desk today.
To put it simply, I'm looking for answers. That's something those who visit this board depend-on.
now, regardless if Anime is drawn in this format or not is not the question, ( I'm not stupid, )
is there a UHD Codec or not. If not, why not. How long till it ready. blah blah -- blah blah ....

It already exists, it's just not any kind of standard yet.post-it wrote:is there a UHD Codec or not. If not, why not. How long till it ready. blah blah -- blah blah ....Mister Hatt wrote:4K has been around for over 10 years, it's a standard in the video industry.

Well while 4k itself isn't anything new, I'm rather surprised at Youtube's new support of it. I experimented a bit with it, made this little video... My computer isn't powerful enough to play it smoothly, nor is my monitor even capable of playing it at near optimal resolution, but those who have the right hardware should be ecstatic over this.

What the heck is going on over there in Google-land? Who's bright idea was this? Please improve the 720p and 1080p (especially the damn aliasing crap) before rolling out new features that are totally pointless. ARGH!!!
