Can't the lawyer still DQ one of the final videos?

Well, you can't statistically draw that conclusion without comparing the standard deviations of the lengths of the videos as well. Just because the means are similar doesn't mean the distribution of times is the same.
Somebody that understands statistics! Now that's rare. :awesome:
Even with the standard distributions... Not really. There are an infinite number of moments above the first and second moments (also known as average and standard deviation). There is skew and kurtosis (3rd and 4th moment)... and all the moments above them. Without making an assumption about the distribution, you can't really make a conclusion even if you did have the standard deviation. Although... I guess there'd only be 34 moments in the worst case (the conversion to a moment is equivalent to a Fourier Transform. So it'd be a Discrete Fourier transform and it'd have no more than 34 data points).

Take the 33 one-minute videos and a 1 hour 27 minute videos.... this has (approximately) the same standard deviation as a 16 videos -13 minutes long and 16 vids 16 minutes long. (yes, negative minutes :-p).

Basically, just because the means AND the standard deviations are the same... doesn't mean that the skew and the kurtosis is the same. The only thing we have is an average time of ~3.5 minutes and a minimum time of 1 minute. :awesome:

OOH. OOH. USE A vuvuzela! :bzz: :bzz: :bzz:
And include many people falling down dramatically.
And possibly a few guest appearances by Kanye West!
I'd vote for it. Greatest AMV contest troll ever! And then when it wins, they'll play it again at the award ceremony during Iron Editor! :O
And it's perfectly legal since it's not covered by the current "anti-trolling rule!"

That's a short show for my 6 minute video, but I'll keep my fingers crossed anyway haha. Statistics and all (not that I pretend to know math lol)

I wonder if anyone submitted a video over 6 minutes...I could picture AMVs spanning 10-12 minutes to a variety of music. Some shows have so much depth to them its like they almost deserve a good lengthy video haha

Just got back from the panic meeting. Schedule is assed up. We're bouncing the server between Main events, video 1, and panel 3. AMV Contest in Main Events will be played out of sync unless some major technical concessions are made. AMV Contest winners may or may not be announced at the con given the potential schedule. As it stands, AMV overflow does not exist. Your hard work has been bumped in favor of "big" DVD screenings. Also the first fan parodies block is being shown at noon on Friday, while everyone is still getting their badge.

This is subject to change, but when the con-chair tells you to "go home", I wouldn't hold my breath. Will keep ya'll updated. You guys are all wonderful and don't deserve any of this, but I am both defeated and tired. Baltimore is mad far yo :/

What do you mean "out of sync"? And which place is main events, 1st Mariner Arena? IIRC, Video 1 was where the AMV contest was last year, right?

Wait, did they cancel Iron Editor?

Sounds like we just need an even bigger DVD. Have you considered Laserdisc?

Main Events is one of the halls in the BCC. The 1st Mariner Arena is being used exclusively for the masquerade, while the rest of us have to juggle schedules and make compromises. A/V will be out of sync because we'd be putting our video scaler behind their video scaler, adding a big delay. This doesn't happen in Video 1 because we have a direct line to the projector, and I had to fight just to get that. Can't remove our scaler because it helps with the overscan and we use it for some minor color correcting. This is why you don't have "Otakon fraked up my video" posts. I make sure it's shown right the first time. Unions. Frak yeah.

Iron Editor is still on, but the AMV contest might not end in time to count the ballots, and show the winners at IE. It may even be after IE on Saturday leaving our award ceremony taking place at closing ceremonies, it at all. Because you all stick around for that...

The server has an SVHS deck. I can retrofit said slot with my Laserdisc player, but nobody sent in a Laserdisc video this year ;)
