I'll say it again. I'm giving you crit based on your trailer, not the series.
If you're trying to make this look like a real trailer, adding your little intro isn't a good idea. There are editors who do have intros, but when making a trailer they don't usually add it. Trailers are a very different type of amv, and there are many different things to consider when you make them. Do actual trailers have custom made intros? No. It's the generic green thing.
Because this is an amv, not a real trailer, I'm not going to emphasize this point as much. However, when there is a real trailer that has a flash-back/memory in it, it's the normal color of the clip, despite it being a memory. I've never seen it done in real trailer, but I can see grayscale being used.
But like I said, since this is an amv, I don't mind too much.
I'm basing this off :23. It looks fine, because it's an amv, but if you want to make it look like a
real trailer, then my suggestion would be no colors, or just grayscale.
Because I've seen the series, I understand what :32 means, when he leaves to go train with Jiraiya. However, It's awfully short, that part. If you want to emphasize the fact that "Now he's stronger" and stuff, I'd make his departure longer. Just a personal preference. Not really necessary.
Judging by your previous posts on the org, your footage is downloaded. However, do you have AMVapp? If you don't, I highly recommend it. It's available
here. The reason I mention this is because at :44 (and throughout the rest of the video) you have thin black lines at the top and bottom of the video. To improve the visual quality of it, you would use Avisynth to crop the two lines. You'd have to read the
guides to learn how to do this, if you haven't already. There are also other helpful guides available in that link.
I'd suggest that you move your subtitles up a little higher. When you have to draw your eyes down so far to read, sometimes you can only vaguely understand what is really happening.
Because this is part of your "series," I'm going to let :58 slide. In an actual trailer, there'd be no clip of the movie that the director also directed. It'd be mentioned in text, and there'd be 1 to maybe 2 movies mentioned. coming from someone who hasn't seen your other things, I'm going to say I didn't like it.
Also, the subtitle at :58 should have been on the little clip. Even better would be if it was cut out.
And I think you spent too long mentioning what other stuff you made. I just though, "get on with it already!"
Fading, like the ones at 1:10, look odd. It'd look better with just cutting the fading and doing some simple panning on the characters.
I understand that you're trying to introduce all of the characters, but clips like the one at 1:12 and the one of Ino directly before are disrupting to the atmosphere you have going. They're very light scenes, and such dramatic music in the background doesn't fit.
The transition at 1:32 was blech. The bleeding was the bad part. It might have been okay if it was just a regular cross-fade, but even then it's blech. Trailers don't generally have cross-fades.
At 1:35, you started the music at a perfect time. However, the song choice was just awful, imho. Such an overused trailer song should not be used. If you're looking for originality points here, that was not the way to go. It ruined the mood for me.
The fades at 1:42 looked too dark. The fading was fine, but they looked oddly dark. And that matters to someone like me, because in trailers any fading is very soft, for lack of a better word.
There was a glitch at 1:49. You could see it was panning upward, then went down, then went up again.
No need to make the screen smaller at 1:53. Would have been more intense if you let it be.
If you're looking to make your trailer original, I'd probably do something more fancy with the text. I didn't necessarily mind it, but it was just boring.
But I've watched, studied, made, and enjoyed trailers for many years. And it is, technically, when looking at the different aspects of a trailer, very good. I'd like to give major compliments for the audio from Naruto. From the preview, it appeared to be at just the right volume. And it was also wonderfully placed. A lot of people have problems doing this, but you did just fine. I was very glad that that part was done extremely well. Also, the actual audio chosen was well, judging from the subtitles.
For an original trailer (not one synced to a real trailer) it's actually very good. There are some issues, as I mentioned, but I liked it.
Some general comments: I felt it was a tad too long, the song choice could have been a lot better, and some clip choice could be better too. I've seen the series, and I don't know if someone who hasn't seen it can truly understand what was happening. It started off focusing on Naruto, then went in another direction.
It sometimes lacked impact, but that was mostly do to fading and poor scene selection.
Overall, I enjoyed it as a trailer. I thought it was executed well.

But in terms of originality and
personal enjoyment I receive when watching a trailer for an upcoming movie, it definitely lacked.
