Suffering for your Art
We all know this is all just for fun. We’re not paid to do this, we’re not strictly under any real pressure to finish anything and certainly it is completely our prerogative to just give it up when it’s gone too far.
But in reality, how many of us out here have actually put more effort beyond staying up past your bedtime and downing a few too many energy drinks to keep going? We’ve all probably heard that ‘artists’, when passionate enough, are willing to suffer for their art, never compromising on anything to ensure they create exactly what they wanted.
So I guess I just want to get a bit of discussion regarding people’s battle scars in this violent world of AMVing
I remember that when I created Only Bob, my computer at the time was suffering from a bit of overheating problem. I was also under pressure to get it done because the AWA Masters deadline was fast approaching. As a consequence, I generally edited during the day and rendered the 3D images at night. Bearing in mind that this is during winter in the southern hemisphere, throughout the day I would edit with my big electric fan blowing into the open computer tower (heating is left off obviously). And at night, I tended to sleep in the spare bedroom of the house which was never warm enough to begin with even with the heating on. That was at least better anyway than being in my room where the computer was rendering and the electric fan kept blowing cold air for the rest of the night. So yeah, that last week of rendering was a few days of constant cold and sleeplessness.

Re: Suffering for your Art
I remember when I was making Betwixt and Between, I had to listen to a Taylor Swift song nearly 9 million times. I'm doing it again right now with Betwixt and BEtween 2. >_< If that's not suffering, I dunno what is.
Meanwhile, in reality, I suppose the most I ever "suffered" was when I was editing something, and my computer I was working on overheated and my computer kerploaded [it couldn't handle Premier CS3 apparently, it was a really old computer].

What if it had been a Miley Cyrus song? Ohoho! One up'd!CodeZTM wrote:I remember when I was making Betwixt and Between, I had to listen to a Taylor Swift song nearly 9 million times. I'm doing it again right now with Betwixt and BEtween 2. >_< If that's not suffering, I dunno what is.
Myself, I've frequently waited until deadlines to make videos, not slept and then gone to work the next day, but that's about it. But that "lack of sleep due to editing" is fairly commonplace.

I did a Jonas Brothers song... That's about as bad as Cyrus @_@ Maybe worse, (to me at least) Miley can sing O.o Jonas kid slurs like a drunk. I'd also rather listen to Miley than Taylor Swift... though both are pretty freaking trite.
I've bought DVDs just for videos, I probably should haven't spent the money though. If things get too much like work I take a break... sometimes the breaks last pretty long though.
