While were on the subject only pros use xyz be it premiere vegas whatever. Does it really make a video any better or worse if it was done in movie maker. sure some jobs are easier with more advanced tools but that's it.

Not sure what you mean. You mean if the effects are done good then it doesnt matter how they are used ? I think effects should have a good concept no matter how good they look.
I think the words 'done' and 'used' ARE interchangeable here :| nobody's talking about custom effects, they're all canned, thus the only question is HOW they are 'done' or 'used'. I doubt if anybody's really 'done' a custom effect here... coded from the ground up (or even implemented into avisynth, doki and pwolf had some 'custom filters' they'd made back in the vdub days) most 'custom effects' are simply multiple canned effects mixed in some way.

(crossfades = overused effect)
(crossfades are NOT an effect...they are a transition, and traditionally they are used to show that time has passed between scenes in a narrative work, or to join two relatively unrelated things, sometimes with black space in between)

Ah, and:
"use of effects for effects sake" - that's fine if you wanna create a demoreel :p
"DON'T USE PRESETS" - considered the default settings in effects plugins and packages that become instantly identifiable.
"I didn't like your video, therefore you shouldn't have made it, and it probably won't be popular" - feck that noise. Make what you want to make.

I thought that until I met some WMM editors. Amvs are all about effects?
WMM sucks, people who work with it, get decent quality, and not pull their hair out are miracle workers.

I think that Ileia's "Continuous Play" completely shattered and disproved that rule.

She's actually not the first editor to disprove this rule ;)
