Sounds like time for some x264 golf! Turning RDO off is kinda dumb, because you're effectively disabling everything that takes advantage of tricks in the eye and requiring the detail to actually be there.

I think someone gave me a 280mb amv or something, and I got it down to around 60mb, visually identical. Just play with your x264 opts, and use mkv because it has less overhead and other things that effectively make this sentence shameless marketing.
