It's possible to get your YouTube account back after it's been suspended if you send a dispute form, a friend of mine over there has had her account suspended twice and she managed to get it back both times.
And you can always make a 'backup account' so you can continue uploading videos there after your original account has been suspended, most people do that.

Not quite true. If you have your own webspace, you can put the videos there and create direct/indirect links to them on your video info page. Non-members can view direct/indirect links just fine, I'm pretty sure.

Also, it really is simple and painless for people to create accounts here if they want to download the locally hosted videos. And the site will never send them any unwanted e-mails.

I'd just like to point out something I've said elsewhere, clearly the requirement to log in to download/view videos is a disincentive to some users. Things really should be as simple as click on link to the video's profile, click on play....

As long as the legal system and the educational system exist in the twisted, fractured states they embody today we will always keep producing idiotic masses of cattle who believe in evolutionarily dead ideas like copyright and nations.

Get another youtube account, one not on same email. post video there first. At least you know how youtube will react when you UL it.

Only if we're willing to risk losing everything with it. This place gets popular enough, we attract the ire of the music groups. It's always been that way. If the act of registering has put enough of a damper on site growth, I weep for the future of humanity but recognize that the assumption that it does was actually the reason we do it, not the reason to stop. It'd be great if someone like Phade would step in and say one way or another, but I always saw the purpose of registration as a safeguard against explosive growth and the inevitable consequences it entailed. I swear this has been discussed before though. Anyone else have any records of official reasoning?

but we already have the spotlight free for anyone to view O.o and as for downloading, sure you should sign up to do that... but it would be nice if the previews were free for anyone to view...
