I don't know why I waited so long to watch this. One of my three favorites for the year, and definitely up there with the best.
The effects and integration of different anime were very convincing for the most part (did you mask in the skies with moving clouds? I can't tell how much was in the original anime or custom, nice work), but the video's strongest point is the story. Haven't watched the anime, but your tedious attention to detail and flow made it immersing while not being overly complicated. It's among the best storytelling I've seen in an AMV.
Kind of reminds me of Whisper of the Beast with the story and effects. I think this deserved better than 3rd place, but same with that one... I hope this video doesn't pass up on what it's due, because it's friggin awesome.

Superb in many ways - story change and storytelling, character tribute, song choice
But also confusing storytelling towards the end, lots of glow FX and some meh masks
