Well if you want to try effects like those, then there is no harm in that either. However I wouldn't let a "bad video" that also uses that effect ruin my own experience with weather or not I want to use that effect.

Besides sometimes videos like that are just short experiments and aren't necessarily there to "wow" anyone.

Ah, that makes more sense. The solution isn't to get discouraged though. It's to make sure there is always a a core concept to your videos and any effects are used to enhance that core concept. Just shake your head and try avoiding videos that should be titled 'LOOK WHAT I CAN DO IN AE!'

You know you're a good editor when people tell you they want to quit because of you. :shark:

My version of that video would be the shortest vid the .org has ever seen. :awesome:

I'll make my usual post.

Just make shit you want to make. Seriously. Who cares what anyone else does? Effects are shit unless there's a purpose for them. Who cares if "nobody" watches simple videos? I think if you made a really good simple video and got it out there that you'd find it's much different. There will always be a contingent that will be insta-impressed by flashy effects usage or beat-zoom-blur-stuff. If your end goal is to be popular, then get used to that and do it. If your end goal is to enjoy making a really good and well crafted video, then well, what are you waiting for? :shark: :shark: :shark:

That would probably be the issue for some. They don't want to do that. When someone watches an AMV and they feel like a bitch it means they just need more self-confidence. IMO instead of spending hundreds of hours on effects the self-confidence route is more efficient. Now I'm not saying to overdo it. http://www.theonion.com/articles/report ... call,1531/ There are extremes on both sides =p

I'll just flat out say this:

I'm confident enough to the point where I feel I can run circles around these "fx" videos. If they rely on effects, I'll mop the floor with them with story and concept. 8-)

I feel I'll never reach this level of audio-visual mastery.
