Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
I 100 percent approve of anything Doctor Who related XD
And from what I've seen there's a very large crossover between anime fans and Doctor Who fans (it all kinda goes under the same nerd flag). You'll be my hero if you pull that off.
Also...honestly...while I don't think it would make a good ONLY running joke(since not every single person is familiar with it)..it'd be a good running joke...the Tardis showing up in the middle of something. Although it would be kind of abandoning the kid's theme...

Oh god, Miko, you may have hit something totally awesome! If there is actually a collection with all textless anime intros, not only would that be useful now, but useful... god, for tons of things! If there is actually a collection for that, please please send me a PM or e-mail of it, since I'm sure that'll be useful.
My big limitation is I need full body animations, or at least one frame so I can extract a full dynamic pose. What I'll be doing will be very complex and time consuming, but pretty straight-forward. I'll be taking those full bodies, masking them out of the footage frame by frame, and scaling them through the wormhole as best I can, probably doing it on 2s to make it look more animated. Which will also have to be frame-by-framed (yup, time consuming). The hard part is the footage, and the ideas, so I'll need a lot of help getting the footage or screen shot as well. Any MKVs with softsubs I have I bought OJOSoft media converter and it converts many things into other media, it even has a setting for 720x480 avis and it picks up most MKVs and DVD rips, and it's what I've been using since day one pretty much.
I'm trying to make sure I use iconic or recognizable characters, the type that even if you haven't seen it, you can still in general have a chance of recognizing them. Here is what I have so far:
-Chi's Sweet Home - Intro screenshot, plus she does a little dance on the bottom of the screen that I thought would be cute to see coming from behind the Tardis
-Gintama - Kagura riding Sadaharu in the first intro, plus I was thinking it might be fun to have Gin fade in with a still shot of him picking his nose during the part of the theme where the Doctor showed up in the old version of the show. May be too obscure though.
(Also, I want to have Elizabeth there... if you don't know what he/she is... well... it's complicated ^^)
-Toaru Kagaku no Railgun - Misaka shooting her coin maybe working with the wormhole (theory idea)
-Macross Plus - Plane flying through wormhole
-Gurren Lagann - Second intro has the Dai Gurren flying at the screen with effects as well
-RyoOhki as a ship flying through the wormhole.
-Kiki's Delivery Service
-Strike Witches - Haven't seen it, not sure how difficult it'll be to find a shot of them going away from the screen, but considering the pantsu focus, I'll go out on a limb and say not too difficult (Would love it if I could make it look like Kiki is leading them ^^)
-Little Nemo Adventures in Wonderland - Flying Bed, tons of scenes of it flying away from the camera
-Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan - She does a sort of back flip flying toward the camera in the intro
Game references (haven't thought as much about this since I lacked anime ones, but games and anime are closely linked to many):
Star Fox - Have the R-wings flying through and shoot and maybe blow something up, not sure what yet.
Mario - Have the squid from the underwater levels float across the screen
- Mariokart riding through the wormhole
If you have any thoughts about iconic characters from either games or anime, don't hesitate, I'm running out of time to get my clips done. I'll need into May definitely to make sure I get this and my other clips done, but considering we survived the computer demise last year, I think I can pull it off by the final deadline easily with enough stuff.
EDIT:
Moonbunnychan, can you think of any way to make that a running gag? If you believe you can make it work, it may have some merit. I mean, if I'm making this intro, we already have a Dr. Who setup, so involving the Tardis somehow would make the running gag even stronger since it'd be connected directly to the intro.
Any thoughts on this idea everyone?
EDIT 2:
Is there an anime with someone, a kid or something, riding seated on top of a robot character? I just had a thought based on the new running gag of taking out whatever character is being ridden and replace it with a Dalek in the intro Maybe I could do it with Gurren Lagann, with Simon sitting inside the Gurren head

At the same time I'm getting excited about all these ideas y'all are coming up with, I feel like a slacker because I'm having trouble getting past this current creative block.
I wanna contribute more than one commercial but I also don't wanna force an idea that's only half-baked into something overwrought.
Still gonna try.

Hmmm you could check Hayate the combat butler, it has some robots in it, but not sure if there's a kid riding one.. Attacking maybe.. Small chance, but you could skip through the eps if you really can't find any.. Utawarerumono has a few scenes where there's a childish looking elf in a sort of mech..Gaelstrom wrote: EDIT 2:

Mai hime has the Duran child which is a dog/wolf kind of mecha, there's also an iron frog on which a few kids stand...
I don't really watch any mecha so I'm not very good at these kind of things
I'm going to work on the trollface clip now..

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
Thanks, Krvabo. Actually another friend suggested Underwaterrayromano as well ^^
I got an idea from my Dr. Who fan friend. Moonbunnychan, you may like this potential running gag. This actually goes along the lines of Geico Money AND the explosion idea. What if we chose various scenes and just had Daleks invade them with their "EXTAAARMINAAATE!! EXTAARMINAAATE!!" and start firing lasers in the screen and such as an interruption of sorts. My friend suggested that they would assault all the Moe anime. And people might see it coming, but we could just do what you did with the Money in the Haruhi clip. Start with an incredibly obvious Moe anime and literally seconds in after they say half a word just have the screen inundated with Daleks interrupting and shooting lasers. Actually what I envision is almost a little AquaTeenHungerForce timing on their entrance and such. And we could even play with it. Have them shoot at Goku in full super saiyan and it just bounes off of him and then silence, and then I could take sound from one of the episodes with them talking and edit the dialogue and make him go "...shit..."
Just struck me as another fun one to add to the pile. The best part is, my friend has 3D models of the Daleks which I can put into scenes rather easily using my 3d software.
Potentially worthwhile?

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
My only problem with it is that while the fandom overlap is pretty big, it's not 100 percent, so too much of it could potentially be alienating (no pun intended) for those who haven't seen it.
(Still pretty darn funny though).
I'm kind of inspired to make something Dr. Who related now though. Hmmmm...

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
The idea is pretty (well.. very) nice and I can imagine a lot of cool stuff, but it sounds like an _assload_ of work to do. I don't think it's really all that easy to do as well, making it look right.
Anyway, I've just sent in my Death Note / Trollface - clip and imho it turned out pretty well.
Now I have to decide which clip I want to do next.. I've got 1 half finished and 2 ideas. The Smells like Nirvana one might do well, but can I use K-On or should I go for Haruhi? K-On might be better, but if it's overused I'd rather not use it as source material.
After that there's the "Backing Up" song, on which I'd thought I'd use Chobits and the "They're Snatching yo' people up" song. For that one I don't have any image material yet and I can't really think of any yet

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
I think it may be a bit alienating, but something I remember is when I didn't even know what the Daleks were, when a friend showed me a picture and started explaining it to me, I found them almost an adorable idea. An ultravillain made out of plungers and paper and shit, it was hilarious, and how cliche they are somehow strikes me as they'd be awesome invading anime cliches or something. For example I think the Goku stopping the Dalek ray would be pretty amusing. What we'd have to do is of course mix it up a bit so it wasn't constant, just like Geico Money is, so nothing particularly new there. In fact combining the Daleks and the explosion idea strikes me as some Looney Toons level slapstick comedy if edited correctly.
My friend who is a fan of Dr. Who is also trained in 3D (helped me make the Lucky Star logo) and he likes the idea sufficiently that he'd be willing to help do it. Once we have the Dalek models in 3D, which we can actually download I believe, we basically just need to toss the footage in the background, and move them in 3D so they show up in the right areas at the right times, and then it's simple masking in After Effects so they show up behind whatever object you want them to pop out of. That won't be too much of a problem, as long as people like the idea, and can make their clips by the end of this month for it in general so we have a couple weeks to make each scene work. The key is what ideas exist. For example the Goku one, and I also thought it would be funny if in the midst of K-on (since I worked with it so much now, but probably wouldn't use this one specifically since I have two K-on clips) when the sensei opens the door and she's standing in it, edit her out and put a Dalek or something. Or even reverse it, have the Daleks come in screaming and have the sensei wail on the guitar and they all just explode 80s music video style. It can happen multiple ways.
Krvabo: Speaking of K-on, if you're thinking of doing a music one, I advise you to look at Angel Beats. Within the first three episodes, you will find the best animated music playing to date in an anime I think. I don't know what your joke is, but I've heard it several times that people aren't so fond of the Haruhi music footage in general since it's so overused. And K-on, I think moonbunnychan and I both have two clips a piece of K-on, we may be saturated now. In fact I think I may just post what clips I have done so you all can see them.
EDIT:

Here's some xvid renders of my current completed vids so you all can check them out. Deuce, you'll have DVs soon for higher quality. Ignore the lipsync issue in the BakeTest01 vid, that's been fixed, it's an initial version.

I smirked @ baketest.
I _lolled_ @ KonLepSync05
The last one did nothing for me, but maybe in a crowd it'll get laughs.
Also @ KonLepSync05 there seem to be a few places where the lipsync is a bit off: 00:10 - 00:11 is the most noticeable.
Overall: nice vids
David Krein? In Dutch pronunciation: [krɛiːn] it sounds the same as my first name: Krijn. The first name is of Frisian decent (Netherlands' second language in one province and a part of Germany) but it seems the surname is mostly of Russian decent. Funny

Re: AMV Salad 5: Happy Meal
Krein is actually from Trier Germany as far as I know, I'm told it's as prevalent there as "Smith" is in America.
The last one I'm curious if you aren't amused by it in part due to your region and nationality ^^ It never occurred to me, but I'd imagine that show wouldn't be as amusing over there. I know it's not the funniest joke, but when I heard the lines in the show and imagined it coming from them, I laughed, and it stayed amusing long enough that I went ahead with it. Most of my friends who heard the idea and the final clip laughed, or at least smiled, so while it may not get laughs, I think it'll settle for an 'amusing' one I'm not sure which one should go first in the actual production though, since whichever one goes first will have more impact.
I'll take another look at the lipsyncing on the one you mentioned as well. It can always be adjusted. Mio's mouth being open at the end was meant to be the "Heh" Garth does at the end, but it too easily comes off as a mistake.
