Hahaha, okay, the first one had some very strange jittering ^^ Anyway, these don't quite fit the click-boom idea I had in mind, because you can sort of see them coming. The first one I like, because you expect him to just squish and he explodes, however the problem there is that humans have no reason to explode unless a very creative one is given. I never really thought about it, but making people explode doesn't seem to work. It's kind of paradoxical as there's really no reason for anything else to explode in the idea either, but that's where the fun comes in is making shit explode in places where there's something of potential importance related to it, rather than something that would just happen. The second clip doesn't work much because she's already been smacking him, so it's truly random that it happens.

Random funny slapstick explosions aren't really random, even if they seem that way. In the Batman youtube poop for example, the joke as I perceive it is that it's Batman, and he wouldn't blow anything up, and he's nonchalantly going to press a button that he and everyone else who knows his character expects to do something completely different, and before they can even finish the thought wondering what it'll activate, the explosion cuts off their question in their head. The first one fits that to a decent degree, but because it's a human who's exploding it's a bit odd ^^ I laughed though, you got the timing of the idea down pretty well. As it is, the first one, once the jittering is repaired could actually work well.

Now one thing that was great is those explosions. Those were quite good, and you got two different ones that feel connected. What are those from? Are there more?

Also as a thank you for those, here's the update on the titles and the more prepped clip for the intro.

davidkrein.net/AMVS5TitlesTest.rar

Everything's now timed for the most part, now comes the tedium of adding characters. Technically as it is now this is ready to add into the full production. And feel free to let me know if you want the 3D titles adjusted somehow. You'll see the spinning Dr Who logo still show up there a bit. For the most part it's edited out, but I plan to cover it and the quick cuts with characters when all is done. Frame-by-framing out that spinning logo was/is a true bitch.

Final episode of Elfen Lied is where the explosions came from.
Actually the same explosion from two perspectives but who's counting? :P
Now that I have a better idea of the 'splosion idea I can figure something out.
There are a few more good explosions in Cowboy Bebop: the Movie which I'm gonna look into next.
Probably would provide more appropriate situations too.
I think I have something... :asd:

I've thrown together a quick video which goes well with the theme and is reasonably funny.
Before I send it in to Deuce I'd like some (or one) opinion(s).

Low quality version (12-13MB): http://sketsi.com/amvs5/bonanzaLQ.avi

If it gets the OK, I'll send the higher quality one to Deuce via the normal way.

Hahahaha, okay, I watched it through 5 times in a row and I just started laughing harder each time ^^ I honestly don't even know why! I want to see this at Otakon if for no other reason than to see if people will do the same thing. I don't even know anything about Bonanza either, so that's a good sign.

There are some changes I would suggest. I don't know what footage you have as a source, but the two main things I would suggest is to see if you can find a more dynamic ending, and the other major thing is to match the leopard's (?) landings with the downbeats in the music. Pull back the shine on the teeth a little and he should land on the downbeat for the three landings, and he should be in the air during the french horn, which I think may make the fact that he's in the air even funnier. If he's still not hitting the objects on the downbeat, I'd shave off a frame or two from the end of the clips until it works.

For the ending, if you look at all the footage you use in the beginning, you have running to the beat, a shine to the beat, basically all your movements matched the rising power of the music, and then you pretty much lose it at the end. I believe you'll do well if you cut back to her running at the end of the french horn portion when it goes back to the trumpet refrain (think that's the right term...?), cut with that beat back to her running. And at the end, see if you can find a third image that's even more ridiculous with the leopard, like for example if they were sipping tea, something that crazy. If not, the ferry works. Right now the fading and the two images feel kind of tacked on. With two, it's not perceived as a progression of events. With three it will be, since we think in 3s in terms of examples. I'd grab a third image, and put it in there and cut to the three trills of the trumpet. The four notes, cut, the 5 quick notes, cut, then the final image holds so the audience can see it. Then lastly I'd cut it mid-note so you don't get that quiet rise at the end that makes it feel like it should continue. The fades killed the momentum, so all you need to do is let the music carry the momentum. The key is cutting to the music.

I think that'll make the clip land even harder ^^

Thanks for the feedback. It's pretty much exactly what I thought of it.
The fact that it's not perfectly timed is because I (literally) used one source video and cut a few things from it. I've spent about half an hour on it ;)

I wasn't really pleased about the ending. There are more 'fade' parts in the source video and while I could put those in I'd rather do something else. The sound was another annoyance. When it was cut it just didn't feel good. Maybe it's better if I chop the last bit off. I'll give that a try.
The downbeats is certainly something I wanted to improve on before I send it in.

Just wanted to know if it was funny enough to continue on. I guess it is, nice :)
Btw, I didn't really know Bonanza, just that it was some kind of western series from way back. I just liked the theme song :P

Yup, it's one of those clips that doesn't need to take a lot of work to make it good. Those are always fun.

BTW, Deuce, have you done anything to get AMVS4 or AMVS3 into Otakon this year as well? I really want to see them again in the big room.

I'm still awaiting word on whether or not I have a panel for this series.
You know there are no "small" rooms at Otakon, though. ;)
As soon as I know I'll fill y'all in.

As for that Bonanza clip, I thought it would be awesome if he were riding the panther through a myriad of escape scenarios only to look back and she's STILL chasing...
How sad is it that I know Bonanza but an not familiar with the anime used here?
But yeah...would like to see how this one ends up.

I don't mean a panel Deuce, I mean the encore showings in the actual fanparodies. People judge what we show when we're right in front of them and showing it, so it changes perceptions. We can do a panel, I'd be happy to be there and be a part of it, but I would trade a panel for the chance to show them in the big fanparody room any day. But of course, there's no reason not to have both ^^ Please, please, PLEASE try and get at least one of them re-shown. 4 is preferable, since it's better in general than 3, and if anyone wants to see 3, if we have a panel we can show some of our favorite clips. But panels are nothing compared to a room of 2000 people there for no other reason than to laugh.

The source is basicly just that. Mahoro (from mahoromatic, the maid) is still following him, even after all that. The small fades at the end show just that. Though, the real 'joke' is the guy riding the panther to the themesong. It just kind of works.

I'll work on it some more coming week(s) and I'll get it to you.

I think I'm going to skip on the Nirvana one for now. I have some technical difficulties to get everything right. I will also drop the 'backing up' autotune the news video I mentioned earlier. It's just not funny enough and I don't think it had enough real life exposure. The 'snatching yo people up' I might still do, not sure about that one. I could use some source video from Bakemonogatari in that video. Might work but I'm not really sure if it'll get a real laugh.

At this moment I've got a list of 14 audio / anime combinations that I thought might be fun to do. At least I've got material for next year as well :P
One I really wanted to do was use Terrance and Phillip from South Park (the movie mainly). I wanted to make the canadian faces work on some anime chars, and I really think that would be hilarious, seriously. There's just one thing.. the conventions are prudish as hell. Terrance and Phillip are everything but "pg-13" and censoring them would not make for fun clips.

"Shut your *beep*ing face uncle *beep*er, you're a *beep*sucking *beep*licking uncle *beep*er". Just doesn't work. Might do the "I'm not your friend buddy" bit..
