Hm....I don't know that it's short/upbeat enough for the credits. It IS super funny though.

Finally watched the reaction. Man, I'm glad for that second video...the first one is actually sort like "omg omg omg nobody's laughing". The second one's much more encouraging lol.
It's still interesting to see what did and didn't land the way I thought it would though. A few were honestly surprising, for the bad AND good.

I still think though the sheer SIZE of the Otakon audience makes all the difference.

From the videos there's one thing immediately apparent: in the second video the people were more prone to laughing.

The first showing got just a few chuckles at a few clips, and just a tiny bit of laughter, maybe the crowd was too small.
Thanks for the reaction vids :)
The small crowds are a lot more scared to laugh. Less of a mob mentality. When everyone is there to laugh, the atmosphere is palpable. That's why Otakon rocks so much, because if it's good, it's good, if it's not, it tanks hard. There is no middle ground at that fanparody showing because of that mob mentality. It's not for the faint of heart though... I'm sure some of you were there for that... wonderful 'parody' of the black guy sitting in front of his computer talking like some kind of youtube situation. Thing was crap and Scott should never have included it.

At this rate, I don't see 5 landing as strongly as 4 did, but I'm definitely open to it surprising me in a good way. If for no other reason than people now expect a lot from us, that expectation may harm us a bit. It's not because it's not a good production, but I don't think it's coincidence that moonbunnychan pulled magic out at the last minute with the Geico Money ^^

I guess this year a lot of us just had more work.

Dokuro-chan clip ...I don't know. It's relevant, but I find it more depressing than funny personally. The music is overpoweringly sad compared to the shots, so the irony of the clips becomes more of a sad irony than anything funny to me. Kind of like that old FLCL Mad World AMV that manages to make FLCL into a very introspective anime ^^

For credit clips, I'd take a look at last year's reaction vid and think about it as if you are an audience member who is sitting there waiting for stuff to happen. You're mostly bored, or chatting with friends about the clips you liked or what you will be doing later at the con. I guess the reason the Pedobear and Haruhi Geico Money did well is a combo of the music stopping, the silence and the setup, and then the joke. I think it really is a setup style thing. If you think about a normal clip, like Breast Miniatures in the credits, it just doesn't work as well. It might, but not as strongly as where it already is. It comes out of nowhere. That's why the buildup is necessary I think and why it strikes me as more of a 'credit clip' because they're already winding down from the production. You have to guide them back in with a build-up I think.

My vote's still for the Gundam one to be the credit breaker.

Ok, we'll check out the salad4 credits again before we work on anything else.... but we already did this one too:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qS08ROeMPIk

It's shorter, more light-hearted, and (I think) just better than the Dokoro-chan one.

Hehe, love the catgirl witch using that voice ^^ Fits beautifully. But this one suffers from a lack of buildup. It took me a couple seconds to even process what she said, so I had to watch it twice to really understand what it was talking about. You don't need a full 10 second build-up like I tend to use, I just end up feeling into a good amount of time and often make it just a bit longer than everyone expects it should be so they're a little off guard.

This one's good, but again feels like a more center-of-production idea that would work better for breaking apart longer clips if it were refined a bit more. Again, think about this clip as if you're sitting in the credits after a minute of scrolling text and production tags where there's only a few people actually reading intently and everyone's basically waiting around. Before you even knew a clip was playing, it'd be over.

So I'm wondering it this could make good audio for a credit clip. It could be broken up easily like the salad 4 haruhi birdman one, the first two "what does this look like"s could get a repetition, and it could be cut at "You're the one showing me all the sexy pictures" which is the humor-high of the piece or it could lead into the amv salad 6 pitch.

I feel like we're in danger of overthinking the end credits.
Like, we run a real risk of thinking ourselves into an overwrought idea in the end.
Certainly one of you must own anime containing the elusive "walking away from an explosion" clips we need to liven up the credits..?

Hehe, actually I do like this audio quite a bit. I was considering a Yakko clip this year as well. I doubt this one should be broken up though, it's pretty self-contained. This'd be a better idea for next year I think. Maybe even cutting off at the "aaah...aaaaaahhhh..... girls!" part. I know there's gotta be a great character this'd fit for, but for some reason I can't think of who it might be. Something like Sasuke thinking about female Naruto :D You're getting warmer I think. I feel my own creative juices picking up again. I almost definitely won't have time for Stein this year I'm noticing. These animations aren't so much tough as time consuming. But I could make a last-ditch effort to make a credits clip.

I don't think we're over-thinking them just yet. Right now we're kind of in an idea pitch phase, kind of like with the running gag. The problem is it's happening a couple days from the deadline >.> Honestly, you'd figure there would be tons of footage of guys walking away from explosions, but I just don't know where to look besides the Cowboy Bebop movie. Plus I think a couple funny clips would actually be stronger than that, but at the same time, the ending song ends up with a very flimsy connection to the running gag. It's just that footage of them walking away from explosions isn't funny enough to keep people in the seats. Technically it doesn't matter if they stick around, I guess. It's just nice for them to finish up with us.

But Deuce, have you done any of those changes and fixes yet? We need to get another render going with the fixes so we can take one last look through. I still need to check the credits as well, I'll do that tonight after I finish these animations. I especially want to make sure Haruhi Blows Up is pushed back and we can replace that with another bit of footage. Did you remove Hair Back and Forth because it was on Youtube?

Deuce, here's the updated audio for the K-on Leprechaun clip. Please replace it, this should make it easier to hear. If some of you could check it out, see if it actually is easier, please do.

FLUFFY AUDIO: Have these been updated? That's another major audio adjustment that is necessary for the Otakon huge rooms.

Here are some credit changes that need to be made. I have to get to work, but I wanted to make sure you had these:

Intro: I sent you some detailed information as a PM for this. I got the textless opening and this slightly remixed version of the intro from people whom I promised I would credit, and they need to be credited. I didn't add them arbitrarily. Please include them. Here they are again, truncated a bit for space:

Dr. Geass Intro (You can keep 'epic opening' if you want, but I hate it when creators declare their own stuff as 'epic,' that's not our call)
Gaelstrom Productions
"Dr. Who Opening (Epic Version)" audio courtesy of Jennythemusicmaker
Dr. Who Clean Opening footage credited to rory5ash
And you might want to change anime footage to "Code Geass, Various"

Haruhi Blow Up change to: Excerpt from "Youtube Poop: Haruhi Blows Up"

How to Train Charizard: Does Charizzard have 2 'z's like you have it in the credits? I'm not sure, but I don't think so. Might want to check on that.

Quotes: Several of the audio sources have quotes, others don't. I'd suggest making them all consistent.

Anime in the Library: You're missing a couple sources here: "Clannad" and "The World God Only Knows" are also in the clip.

Shut up, Cornelo: That was normal Fullmetal Alchemist, not Brotherhood.

Knifewrench: You have a couple letters switched. It says "Kinfewrench!"

K-on Metalocalypse: You have a C in there ^^ Should switch it to "I Cant'st read myoozick" or something so it's completely phonetic. The 'c' reads weirdly.

That looks to be about all I noticed.

Hair Back and Forth: What are we going to do about the Hair Back and Forth one? I'm really hoping we can get quick permission or something to use it where it was. It really did a great job of mixing things up. Haruhi Blows Up can do it too, but I'm still nervous that most people won't be warmed up enough for complete randomness like that.

Haruhi Blows Up: If it stays there, it'll have a similar effect as Hair Back and Forth in the sense of showing the range of our clips right off the bat. If we can get back Hair Back and Forth, I'd say Haruhi Blows Up can go where Breast Miniatures is, and Breast Miniatures can be moved back a clip to between Sleighbells Ring and Azumanga Cat so we don't have two short clips near one another.

CREDIT CLIPS!: I have a thought Deuce. In order to save time on the song, and get time for a clip, you can cut off that little spoken part at the beginning of the song, and start when the guitar comes in at "Cool guys don't look at a explosions." This way, you can toss my Gundam Fail about 10 seconds in. You can show Warlike Swans's tag, then show my clip so it gives people a false sense of 'oh it's over' but with enough time to make sure they can't escape :D Sounds good?

Can you please look over these, and the other potential changes I posted earlier? We need another test-render with the adjustments and one last look-through to find any issues before you do a final render for Friday. Scott said he could get it by 6 Friday eastern. We don't want to go to the wire there, but let's use the last days wisely. The credits are VERY WEAK right now. The only reason people will stick around now is if A) They know us and know stuff is coming, or B) At Otakon specifically, there's more stuff afterward.

I'm going to rush my ass off to get these animations done and think of an idea. But I don't think I'll be able to do it. I'm animating something much more complex than I initially thought... why did this have to happen on the last week.
