The contest is going to be at 18 and over event next year to allow more...'mature' themes I guess. It was announced right before the contest started.outlawed wrote:o_0xstylus wrote:since the age limit for AMV is going to be raised to 18

Lol, this is exactly why I submitted Mashupgatari for the fun category. I wasn't sure where else it would go and thought to myself, 'well maybe fun implies 'other/upbeat' like other contests seem to do. So I just chose that category for it.Radical_Yue wrote:
Hence why the "fun" needs to be dropped from the category name Hell, maybe a different title altogether? The only reason half of the category fit (such as Lawl & Order, Phoenix Wright, etc...) and half didn't (Make It Rock, Mashugatari) was due to the fact the name is confusing. If I see something labeled "Fun" I think "Oh, this must be where the fun videos that aren't comedy go." It's not the editors to blame, just a poor choice in naming the category.
Does anyone know if A Prelude to Dreams was played at all during the preshow?

Someone else just said R (which is 17+)... Is it R (17+) or NC17(18+)? Honestly, R gets you ultra violence, swearing, full-frontal nudity, and soft-core porn. 18+ doesn't limit your audience much more (you're still checking IDs either way), and would probably be more of a draw.Hagaren Viper wrote:The contest is going to be at 18 and over event next year to allow more...'mature' themes I guess. I agree, I personally would be glad to help out for pre-judging, but since I submit to the contest, I don't want any room for finger pointing so I usually don't even ask.Radical_Yue wrote: The Main Contest
In addition to that, it may be a good idea to get some fresh faces in there who are currently editing and know what the standards are. Seeing cheap stock effects make it into the finals while videos with hours worth of work and roto'ing barely manage to sneak into the preshow is really painful to watch, and almost insulting as an editor.
I mean, you can't control what the audience votes for. If they see a series and a song they like, that's more than likely going to be their choice. The best that can be done is to make sure that they're selecting from the best videos possible.
I REALLY have to apologize to everyone and especially Nic, Brad and Victoria for bailing. Unfortunately my managerial position on staff takes precident. I had a great idea for a presentation to demo but with the amount of work I had right before the days of con, I could not get something together that quickly. With my full time job and AX Staff, it just didn't happen.Radical_Yue wrote: AMV 101
I know that Ben bailed in the last second before the event but all I really walked away with was how to crop and zoom.

wow I really am so shocked and just overwhelmed. thank you everyone and I can't express my gratitude in words very well but I am honored and i dunno thankful for this oppertunity . Thank you
Congrats, neko. Great work, and great footage choice.
Forgive me for asking, but since the age limit for AMV is going to be raised to 18, are we going to be enjoying more of your work next year? You looked rather... ...youthful, and I'd be saddened if you couldn't enter or at least watch.

Lol I want to quote back to everyone but there is so many comments to go through. um yes I will submit next year, thank you so much for wanting me to participate again *HUG* and ... I am actually 22... lol but its ok people think I am 14 because I am so short and I have a small voice and such. lol the Ax staff were concerned about me when I was signing the W2 forms because they thought I was younger than 18 and I told them I was 22 and they were shocked. I get it a lot so its fine. But yes I will participate since so many people are asking me too XD.
I submitted once in 2009, and I tried again in 2010 but my amv didn't make it in time for the deadline (slow mail). I kinda submitted this year on a whim in hopes of seeing my amv on the big screen. Not to get money but just to see it and I am so overwhelmed and thankful to everyone. I never really won anything before besides a few knick nacks from when I was kid. The most recent thing I won before this was a watch from Gonzo in 2007 with the premier of RomeoXJuliet. so just getting all those dvds and the money i was floored and I only had $300 saved up for expo because I can't get a job due to health related issues so I saved mostly from lunch money, fasfa checks and lucky pennies and coins on the street so I dunno what to do... lol
anwyays sorry for the long rant but yes since you a few other have been asking I'll do my best to submit again next year ^_^ lol maybe I can buy a professional program XD use sony vegas 09 movie studio which I bought for $30 and I can't save in HD. I had a friend render my amv to HD on their computer to upload to youtube XD but thank you everyone. oh and btw I loved many of the entries this year and I am honored to have had my video be shown along side those who are amazing editors who I admire and inspire me. thank you and congrats to everyone who got into the finals and submitted amvs this year you are all winners in my book!
btw on a side note, I too would have liked to see a bit more of a variety of amvs in the preshow and other amv related events. I would have liked to see the other contest amvs, than some of the popular ones that have been played many times over. They aren't bad or anything, but seeing them consistently over and over again does get a little... um I don't want to sound mean T_T but um ... dull I guess, I would have liked to see a few more fresh amvs... its nothing personal but I'd just like to see more amvs of people who are new and haven't had the chance to be recognized yet or shown more love.
opps I made another long comment. I am sorry

I actually didn't get to see what you looked like since I was signing my W-9 in the back to get the my Best Fun/OVA cash prize. All I heard was "Some kid won Best of Show".neko kitkat wrote:

A STRONG suggestion: Do NOT spend it all. Throw 45% of that money in a bank account because that's how much Uncle Sam will be asking for when tax time comes. Not kidding.neko kitkat wrote:...so just getting all those dvds and the money i was floored and I only had $300 saved up for expo because I can't get a job due to health related issues so I saved mostly from lunch money, fasfa checks and lucky pennies and coins on the street so I dunno what to do... lol
