With AX finally getting more AMV events, we absolutely need to have a dedicated AMV room like the VAT at AWA.

I'm going to inquire about this year after year after year until it finally happens.
Indeed, It would be the reason to get me back to AX for me as something to do. I run a lot of AMV rooms already including now heading programming for the VAT at AWA, got a ton of awesome diverse programming built up and even all the required equipment  Maybe one day...

If you run a dedicated AMV room at anime expo, I will attend AX again in a heart beat.

The King will grace us with his presence if we have a dedicated AMV THRONE ROOM!

Got nothing but respect for Vlad, but if AX ever does end up getting an all-day AMV room, I can think of a number of AMV loving staffers (including myself) who would feel slighted if a non-staffer was brought in to run it.

Realistically, Michael would probably be the one running it, in a way. He'd likely create a pre-determined playlist of past entries (finalists and non-finalists) and it would just run off a video server, with standard AV staff babysitting the computer.

I'm actually kind of against a dedicated AMV room...It'll kill the attendance at the events and may over-saturate the con with AMVs. Last time I went to AWA, the majority of the AMV related panels had very low attendance due to the fact that people could go see AMVs all day long, so there wasn't anything really special about them anymore.

Kinda like if you were given a piece of candy every now and then. It's yummy in moderation but then someone just chucks a whole bag of sugar at you...if you don't end up in a diabetic coma >.> then you'll be burnt out right after you start.

You should go to Sakuracon and see Vlad run an AMV room. No offense to Troy or any of the other ax staff that would want to put something like that together for ax but I wouldn't trust anyone else (myself included) to put together something like that (not that I wouldn't try though ;) ). Sakuracon runs all the amv programming in there, other than the first contest showing, which is in main events (and a random panel by a random editor this year o.O). During that time the room is closed. Vlad plays a great variety of videos, rarely does the same video play more than once and he doesn't cater to anyone.

Basically, if it's done right, it's a great thing and Vlad does it right.

Well, just my two cents worth, that not an AMV room then and just another video room... The trick is to come up with neat and fun themed blocks of programming that AMV are built around. Not saying at certain times just playing video lists is bad, but you need to mix it up and give it a human interface and turn it into an event... then the people come. If you don't believe me, you really need to actually go and see a AMV room in action yourself (your always more then welcome to come to Sakura-Con  )

And if it's just a machine running AMVs all day then I might agree... That and you forget at cons like that there are well over 30,000+ people so even a AMV room does not dent or take away from other related events... At Sakura-Con there is a TON of peole who come for the contest only and don't even step into the room.

As for AWA, that is why I've took on programming to try add my approach.

Part of the problem is you always have to keep in mind that you are entertaining people and that is what pulls them into the room, not just the AMVs themselves... At Sakura-Con and others with a dedicated room, the contest is still very well attended. The Trick is how it's all done that's the key...

Look I not here to start a war to anything, it was just a comment (wow  ), Either way, in my opion and based on my experience, if done right, AX would benefit from an AMV room. AND in reality, it would take a lot more people to run it then just one.. I not intrested in compeating, climbing over people's corpses or being the head honcho, all I want to do is bring my passion and ideas to the programming aspect so lets not start going balistic here as we're all on the same team I assume.

Anyways, this is getting off topic too and is all academic and theoretical right now so I wouldn't worry too much about anyone stealing anyone's jobs

How about this:

If we can't get a dedicated AMV room, then we should start applying to run separate amv related panels at AX even if they will be in different times and rooms.

It wouldn't be different than Cosplay Comedian Joe's AMV Panel, Nic's Exposition, or the times I ran the NES and Retro Video Game Projects at AX 2004 and 2005.

Actually that's a good thing that could run at said room. AX only has had a couple MEPs play at all. So now there's a huge backlog of them that people haven't seen at this con. The DDR and Hell projects included which are always a pleaser.
