Con to Con or to Meet Editors?

Post by competitionbros » Thu Jul 21, 2011 2:29 pm

I asked this in the chat room and meant to make a topic but forgot about it until today.

I know some editors that've only gone to the day of the contest or awards, spend most of their time in the video room or hanging around with editors and have no interest in most panels or events.

Then there are people, like me, who go to these cons to enjoy the experience: Go to panels, participate in the games, take pictures/video, etc.......The video room is still a big part but isn't the entire day.

Why do you go to cons?

I guess cons are pretty fun, but the only reason I go really is to hang out with the other editors. Without that, I would just be some lonely guy there by himself, looking like a creeper :|

I used to enjoy going to the industry panels when I was more into watching anime but now I go to meet editors and to support the hobby (amvs that is).

Depends on the con :P

We always go to the AMV contest and the awards and stuff, but like Kisanzi and I go to Anime Expo because there is so much stuff going on. While we go with other editors, we usually end up splitting up to go to different panels, dealers room, etc...and then meet back up for AMV stuff, dinner and drunken times in the hotel room.

Smaller cons like Nan Desu Kan, we all hang out together and just do AMV stuff and have drunken times in the hotel room >.> Much more chill since there is less to do.

But any con becomes 60% cooler with fellow editors |:>

Well, recently I am torn among three parts - having panels, meeting ppl (AMV editors or not) + hanging around with them and watching the program.

I think I need three cons for each one I attend :ying:

I enjoy participating in convention events, but if my friends (mainly other editors) are also at the convention, I'll usually spend more time hanging out with them. As of last year though, I've been able to add (Pokemon) Cosplay Hunting to my activity list, and if I see a cool or rare Pokemon costume I'll abandon whatever I was doing to snap a photo (unless I don't have a camera, which drove me crazy at ANorth this year). One time I waited outside the restroom for close to an hour because I saw an amazing Lugia go in there. She never came out. :(

I mostly go for the amv contests/panels/editors/feeling like a rockstar.

Sometimes I'll go to different panels like a voice actor or misc one if it interests me.

In the Fests here, the amv contest is usually the last event. So before it there are the karaoke contest, cosplay and drawing contest, and the last one, the amv contest, though nobody here seems enthusiastic to join the contest. Mainly cause people believe that making amvs is so complex that they just rely on WMM :(

At most cons I just hang out with the people I took with me and/or people I don't see very often, as well as go to events and any panels that seem interesting. I'd love to meet some fellow editors, but I'm generally too shy to actually go up to people and ask if they edit or not. You and your brother, Comp, were the only two people I went up to say hi to at Youmacon last year, mainly because towering over people in five inch heels, rendering me six foot, and sporting a Jill bodysuit cosplay made me a little embarrassed...

You know, even though I got onstage and performed a skit in front of hundreds of people. Yep. Tooo embarrassed to actually talk to people...
