BasharOfTheAges wrote:I can't even see why printed strategy guides still exist. The entire market for them consists of preying on the ignorance of the buyer of places like gamefaqs that have been around long enough to be common knowledge.
To play devil's advocate, back when I still had the glory of disposable income, I used to buy guides just because I liked collecting them. A few do have some pretty neat things, like the huge fold-out chart of Rikku's Mix Overdrive in Final Fantasy X. Yeah, you can find a list on GameFAQs, I know, but the big, clean, color-coded chart is really the way to go.

Aside from choice situations like that, though... yeah, I agree that there's little point to them anymore. Between GF and YouTube, nobody should really need a printed guide.

Anyway, as for what I'm playing right now, I finished as much of Lego Harry Potter as I care about (and as the glitch will allow). I moved on to Katamari Forever, and aside from a few bizarrely frustrating levels (temperature level, I'm looking at you), it was fun. I am really peeved about the fact that the majority of it is reused levels, though. Even the ones that are supposed to be new still use the same locations from We <3 Katamari. I'm glad that I was borrowing the game and not purchasing it, because I would have felt really cheated out of my money.

So, short game that it is, I finished it in a day or two and moved on to Bayonetta. Played that one for half an hour and came to one definitive conclusion: Japanese game developers need to get laid. I'm pretty sure they found a reason to focus on Bayonetta's ass and crotch about twenty times in that thirty minutes - not to mention that almost every line out of her mouth is a double-entendre. I don't mind it, honestly; it's just a little hard to believe that there's a serious story in there somewhere. Gameplay-wise, it's the kissing cousin to Devil May Cry. That's not a bad thing. I love DMC, and it has made the game very easy to learn so far.

I think of the whole thing like this: what DMC has in gratuitous action, Bayonetta has in gratuitous sex appeal. Everything else they have running parallel. We'll see about the story.
