Y'all be haters.

That middle school drama club performance of the pirates of Penzance was the best.

haha! Its true. :P

On topic though, pretty much everything has been said, but it depends on the genre or what you're trying to do. Sometimes it'll look ridiculous or like a b-rated movie from the 70s trying to be artsy and serious but its all hoakey and you're wondering why you're still watching it. On the other hand, it can greatly enhance the feel and emotion of the video if you nail it right, but that goes back to what genre/style you're going for again.

I like to add lip flap to my amv. Nothing worse than having something half synced so the viewer is thinking 'I wonder if he synced that or not?' rather than about my amv. OFC my amvs are always VERY story driven, with some of the more floosey dance videos this might not matter.

It really depends on what you are trying to do. Very rare I think a video works if it ignores the lyrics all together, unless your target audience doesn't understand the lyrics in the first place (lyrics are in another language).

Also there is a huge difference between literal lyric sync and interpreted lyric sync.

If you are doing something more drama then you probably shouldn't do literal lyric sync because it's more than likely going to ruin the mood of your video. Instead, you should try to do an interpretation of what you think the lyrics mean, and how they apply to the video you are making. However, if you are making something silly or funny then literal lyric sync can sometimes help.

Lyric Synch is how I get my inspiration for AMVs; I'll hear a song and think of an anime scene that fits a line or two perfectly. Of course there's a limit, and trying to match the whole song line for line is both tedious and silly but generally I'm a fan.
