Re: Vent Thread
Valentine's Day is not that big where I live so the day went by pretty normally. Although I'm also in the forever alone category. There are ways to be cheery about it tho :3

Note To Self: Stop asking for advice. It just slows you down. Besides, what they say and what you hear are two different things.

Re: Vent Thread
For those of you following the livestream this week, my landlord, Ruu-chan's Mom, decided to cut back on the speed of our internet due to the price of the cable bill. However, when we upgraded (requested by me) it was understood that I would be paying the extra charge for the service. I need the extra speed both for the on-the-side projects that I run (like the livestream) as well as when I work from home, which can be fairly often sometimes.
On Monday while I was at work apparently she degraded the account and had the modem removed. I come home from work and begin the livestream and notice there are issues. I wasn't told that the cable service had been changed, it was just changed behind my back like I wouldn't notice. Yeah, not sure what she was thinking on that one. I know there has been money issues, but I'm the one paying for the service. Did she really think she could pull a fast one over on me when it comes to our internet speed?
So yeah, after that fiasco yesterday she had our faster service restored. However after it was all re-installed we still lacked the proper speeds. Thusly the stream quality was still low last night. When I got home from the date last night I checked out our new cable modem and found that the tech who installed it did a shitty job. He took the old cable connection which was split to connect to 2 modems (one for phone the other for internet) and just connected one end of it to the new modem (now combined voice and internet) and left the other one open. Not only is this an FCC violation, but it's improper installation since no cap was put on the now unneeded splitter thus our connection was leaking. I went to fix this and apparently the tech also decided it was a good idea to tighten the cable connector so tight on the cable modem that he de-threaded the connector from the silicon board. Which meant that in the end when I applied pressure to remove the attached cable line the whole assembly came loose. with as easy as that was to happen our cats (who have a fondness for knocking over the modems) could have easily done that themselves. I've been told that the tech who installed the modem yesterday was in training, so I guess the shoddy installation is to be expected, but there was another tech with him who should have caught that.
Long story short, since about 11pm last night we have been without phone or internet because the modem is broken. Tech will be out between noon and 2 today to fix it. I just hope they fix it right this time. It's really annoying overall though, because the cable company only has times for installation when I'm at work. So I have to rely on giving directions to Ruu in order to be sure things are done right....
The up shot from all of this is that hopefully my internet connection will be back to normal by the time I get home today. I'm not holding my breath, but I can hope it'll be done right this time.

Re: Vent Thread
So update on the internet fiasco....
So the tech came in and fixed the modem installation (I take it they replaced the broken one) and from what I gleam from what I've been told via txt they also fixed the shoddy cable install. Supposedly their testing shows that we are getting proper speeds now.
The kicker however, is apparently when Ruu told the tech to setup the modem as a bridge instead of a router (you know, because I already have a router and none of my remote apps and things work with a router I can't connect to and alter settings on) and he apparently responded with, "Why?" Despite her insisting and explaining the situation to this tech, he apparently just dismissed the request and set the damn thing up as a router anyway.
So she's currently stuck in tech support hell because apparently only Teir 5 has access to remote into the modems and alter them....
Last time this happened (when the upgrade was first made a year ago) it took 5 hours to get this resolved because the idiotic cable techs keep treating my requests like a request from a dimwit end user....
If only it were easier to take a half day at work in order to be sure I am home when shit like this happens so I can lay into the techs....
Grant it, none of this would have been an issue if the internet hadn't been fucked with in the first place!

Re: Vent Thread
Close... Brighthouse aka TimeWarner aka RoadRunner....
Actually, oddly enough I'd rather have Comcast at least as far as customer service goes. Though Brighthouse's service is better and no data cap
Seems like everything has been fixed now... just wish it didn't take so much fighting in order to complete something so simple.

I'm sick, tired, cranky, and stuck at work.
I feel like going berserk.

I just hurt my two fingers quite badly. And I'm playing a piano concert in 3 hours, hell yeah.
