Re: So, what antivirus do you use?
Generally, I don't run antivirus. If I actually wanted to pay for something it'd NOD32. But for free, I recommend as use MS Security Essentials.

Antivirus? I'm to 1337 for antivirus.
(aka I run AVG sometimes.)
I freakin hate programs that run in the background and suck resources, so I tend to only run a scanner every so often. Being smart about where you go and what you open goes a long way too >___>

I mostly rely on my NoScript addon for Firefox combined with safe, intelligent browsing. I've also got the free version of Avast, and run Malwarebytes from time to time.

Re: So, what antivirus do you use?
The reason I like Microsoft Security essentials so much is that it uses little resources and is very unobtrusive. When I used AVG free, it would bug me at times to update to the latest version or try the paid version. MSE just hangs in the background and does its thing quietly, which is exactly what I want.

Avast free version works pretty well for me. I run Malwarebytes and Spybot Search and Destroy on about a weekly basis too, to look for the stuff regular antivirus programs tend to miss.

Re: So, what antivirus do you use?
Common sense in browsing.
Firefox is solidified by AdBlock Plus, ABP Popup Addon, and Flashblock.
SpyBot has Firefox and the Hosts file immunized.
ZoneAlarm Free for firewall usage.
Malwarebytes if I need to see if something got in that SpyBot couldn't detect in its scans.
RKUnhooker and ComboFix reserved for emergencies.
CCleaner and Defraggler for general maintenance. Manual clearing out of the Temp cache regularly.
If for whatever reason I feel the need to run an AV scan, I do so using Avast (or possibly Clam AV now) from my Linux partition.

Re: So, what antivirus do you use?
I'm having flashbacks now to just how TERRIBLY Avast ran on our network and how long it took to clean up the cruft it left behind so things would actually work again. Not only did it erroneously block ALL http access, it also screwed up NetBIOS, WINS, and SMB across the whole building...aesling wrote:Avast free version works pretty well for me. That's unfortunate. I've never had a problem with it though.Fire_Starter wrote:I'm having flashbacks now to just how TERRIBLY Avast ran on our network and how long it took to clean up the cruft it left behind so things would actually work again.
