Re: Vent Thread
I have a headache (what else is new), most likely failed a test, it's doubtful I'm going to do well on the two I have tomorrow, and I feel like I might not get all my work in for the end of the semester. >.>
Also, I have a headache.
Also, I have a headache.

Re: Vent Thread
I tend to visit mandy.com (a site for film jobs) just for the fun of it to see how bad the job listings are in the film industry and I came across this pile of horseshit:
http://mandy.com/1/jobs3.cfm?v=49054174 ... &terr=uscs
$1000 for 3 months of work to edit 9 web episodes.
Bullshit.
That's not even enough to cover living expenses, gas, food, etc for 3 MONTHS.
I left the industry 2 years ago to make my own stuff, and this bullshit is still going around. Attracting all the poor gullible filmmakers who want to get their foot in the door, only to be abused and underpaid like I was when I worked in the industry.
I love how the description mentions they have A-list talent from Arrested Development and The Scorpion King who were most likely extras with little to no screentime who can be hired for pennies. I also love how they have "a current slate of $280MM of films and TV shows in various stages of development".
Upon doing further investigation, if they have $280MM, then why do they still need a kickstarter page which they surprisingly raised over $5k for (most likely by begging their friends and relatives). Oh wait, they must actually only have $280.00 OHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHOH!
"One Warm Night has already garnered thousands of collective fans on YouTube, Facebook, Tumblr, and Twitter, and received the “Editors Pick” accolades on both Web Series Channel and Blip.TV - the leading web series platform which commands an estimated 500 million views per month. "
I love how they've garnered thousands of fans FOR A SHOW THAT'S OBVIOUSLY NOT COMPLETED YET BECAUSE IT NEEDS AN EDITOR.
I dunno how 44 subscribers on their youtube page equals "Thousands of fans", but they have nearly 2000 fans on their facebook page? which are easily purchased with fiverr "facebook like" gigs.
These people are the epitome of scumbags.
Fuck you Hollywood. Pay editors what they're worth or edit the damn thing yourselves. idunknowavid hur hur.

WHAT? You mean you don't think a signed photo from the guy who played Annyong Bluth is worth $150+?Castor Troy wrote:I love how the description mentions they have A-list talent from Arrested Development and The Scorpion King who were most likely extras with little to no screentime who can be hired for pennies. Seriously, though, $1000 for three months? How the hell would you even pay rent with that, not even including other expenses?

I take back everything I said. These people are awesome and any editor is truly privileged to work with footage of Annyong Bluth.

Re: Vent Thread
I suggest not looking at ANYTHING on oDesk then. Used it a while back (more for the hour tracking for a project a friend hired me for) and while I was there, I took a gander at the "editing" jobs. A shit-ton of listings for people with "expert level" experience with Premiere....that also said "DO NOT BID if your hourly rate is higher than $2" WTF!?Castor Troy wrote:$1000 for 3 months of work to edit 9 web episodes.

Re: Vent Thread
So, not only did I come home from work to see it had happened again, I swore I shut the damn thing down before I left in the morning. At least Win7 caught on to the fact that my system had been crashing an awful lot lately and asked me if it could look into the problem.BasharOfTheAges wrote:My main system has been randomly rebooting from an unknown hardware failure. Windows hasn't picked up on what component is doing it, and it happens so rarely that I haven't been able to figure out what's wrong. Only thing I noticed is that after it happens, any USB ports that had devices in them when it went don't work when it comes back up, so i need to move my keyboard and mouse to another port to log in. They work fine afterward though... Gonna have to take the thing apart - hopefully whatever it is will be fairly obvious. One of my monitors has been freaking out sporadically as well, so it might very well be the video card.
