I always just throw my Lagarith AVI into Zarx264 and be done with it. And even though I run a bunch of AMV events, the fact that they are done via a computer (and not a DVD player) means that I don't even have to learn any of this stuff. I guess that I probably should though
when you do, acknowledge the audio equalizer is defaulted to ON. thing bugs the crap outta mexstylus wrote:I'm about to tinker with KMPlayer.

Oh God, I second that. It is the worst thing. I'm putting my vote in for Media Player Classic as well. A very simple player.Rider4Z wrote:when you do, acknowledge the audio equalizer is defaulted to ON. thing bugs the crap outta me
I'm still experimenting and doing my encodes. Lagarith - no longer an option, Mp4 - Last resort option as all players on my computer are now playing it different. Luckily VLC is playing it in sync though. However I'm playing it safe and going with XviD unless I figure out a very amazing PM I just got for future mp4 syncing help in time. If anybody knows the best quality encoding options for XviD AMVs (it doesn't need to be DivX 5 compatible like the instructions in the AMV guides) please PM me if you want to. I don't want to keep steering the conversation towards codecs. The amount of help and patience with my anxiety ridden posts has been great so I just wanted to say thanks to everyone.

Which is precisely and exactly why I'm no fan of MP4. But so many other people swear by it, in fact the overwhelming majority of submissions I have thus far is in MP4, so... But don't forget that if things start getting down to the wire, sending something is better than sending nothing. The post office closes early on Saturdays too.
I still can't believe you're spitting out lagariths that are so large it won't fit on a DVD though.

Re: Anime Expo 2012 AMV Contest - (EZ Rules) DEADLINE: MAY 5
Do you really want your amvs delivered in HD? Why not submit SD Lagarith versions and slap a few XVID avi's on the disc too just in case? Everything seems like it will eventually get re-sized for the contest's playable DVDs anyway right? Hope I didn't do something silly by sending in SD footage when I cut in full 1080p... I'll let the Org distribute my hi-rez HD versions after the contest. That's my plan anyway.Melichan923 wrote:Lagarith - no longer an option, Mp4 - Last resort option as all players on my computer are now playing it different.

Yes, those we my thoughts exactly. Something is better than nothing. Haha, yes my 1080p one is too large to a SL disk. I think 720p would be able to fit and SD definitely. I'm starting to loathe MP4, the quality and filesize is great but I have never not had a sync issue with my encodes using it. I think I can get my encode(s) under 200mb so will any luck I'll be able to send them through a fileshare site. If not, I will send a disk and just put a couple of different encodes on it. Thanks for the heads up about the Post office too!xstylus wrote:Which is precisely and exactly why I'm no fan of MP4. I loved the SD lagarith version, but sadly it played very screwy in VLC and I just didn't want to chance that it would be the one played during the pre-screening/judging and find out it was glitchy. I don't remember what formats you said you submitted in blaku92, but if you submitted a SD lagarith you are probably good. As for my distribution copy for this one, I don't know if it will get to see the lovely mp4 ever again, lol. I don't know if I trust it.blaku92 wrote:Do you really want your amvs delivered in HD? Saying VLC is shitty is like equivalent of saying that you need more gas in you're car after saying that a full tank isn't enough to drive you 10 miles. I'm sorry but if you cannot run it in VLC then it certainly will not run with anything else. I have had zero issues with it so far. I don't even understand what you mean by you're analogy. How can it not play everything well? There are a slew of options to even deinterlace, blend frames, and adjust the footage as you are watching. I cannot comprehend how something would look worse in another video player. Unless you're running Windows 98.BasharOfTheAges wrote:That's because VLC is kinda shitty. It's meant to play everything, not play everything well. Definitely not something that should even be considered to be used in a serious playback environment.
I'm also fumbled by some of these MP4 sync issues too, it's a first really.
