Re: Anime Expo 2012 AMV Contest - FINALISTS ANNOUNCED!!!
Congrats to everyone.
Since I'm a proxy for AioAimo and Chosen Exiled, I'll be coming to watch.
And good for Cho, his first time ever becoming a finalist. And he kept saying his entry sucked, I told him it didn't lol.
Oh well...guess I'll release my crappy video then.

Just because it's not a finalist doesn't mean it's crappy (unless the video contains a bunch of crap jokes )Kazemon15 wrote:Oh well...guess I'll release my crappy video then.

I'm new to entering contests, but based on the last few I've been in, it seems like I'll have to strictly stick to more crowd-pleasing/accessible music and anime sources if I want to be considered... I'm salty, but I knew what I was getting into from the get-go this time. Argh. Best of luck to those who made it in -- I still can't wait to meet you all! Good news is, I'll now be posting my little rejects here on the ORG before AX for all to enjoy/hate.
Edit whatever you want. Making it into convention contests or even winning them doesn't make you a good editor. Considering the majority of audiences just vote for their favorite anime/song combination, you're just supposed to do your best and see how things go. Hope for the best, expect the worst is my motto.
Also, good beta testers are your friends.
I have never, ever edited a video with the crowd in mind. I've always edited what I want to see. The crowd has to learn to appreciate and sit through that.
I never say "Will this be funny for the crowd?". I always say "HAR HAR MY OWN JOKE IS FUNNY TO ME AND EVERYONE WILL LOVE IT! I'M A FJCKING GENIUS! ".
For as long as I've been at this game, there's no magic formula to get into contests (other than the technical "Good Audio/Video" that doesn't look and sound like shit) and every contest is different strokes for different folks. I used to have a pretty good AX streak from 2002-2006 and it took me another 5 years of rejections to get back in. Was I disappointed? Hell yes, I was. But I still stuck to my principle of making what *I* want to see and that's why I got back in.
Now go out and make some videos.

I always have that in mine...making amvs of anime that I love (I love the underused stuff)...but so far, it hasn't worked out for me... Not once... but it's good you have that philosophy.Castor Troy wrote: But I still stuck to my principle of making what *I* want to see and that's why I got back in.

I don't want to edit with overpopular anime just to get in... but it seems that really is the case for these things, huh.

I edit with DBZ and Naruto which are the bane of every AMV judge.Kazemon15 wrote:

I'm quitting while I'm ahead since I can't keep it up much longer.
