Nevermind! I missunderstood. Opened the ffms2.avsi and edited the LoadCPlugin-line.

And suddenly...it's working! Oh my...by now I really thought we'd never get it to work

The AviSynth install is 32-bit, which is why it went into Program Files (x86). The plugin needs to match the bittage of AviSynth, not the bittage of Windows itself. So yes that matters, although perhaps not in the way you thought/meant that comment.

The easiest way to prevent this from cropping up again would be to adjust the .avsi's LoadCPlugin call to use a relative path to ffms2.dll instead of an absolute one, but I'm on the fence as to whether I feel like making that commit.

Meanwhile, people wondering why A) Windows is so shit at multilib, and B) why we don't just 64bit everything and no longer support 32bit Windows in the first place because really who is gonna use 32bit in this day and age. Also, cocks.

I'm on 32bit win2k in Parallels, but there is a good reason for it! Half the trouble with 32bit comes from all this old software (sup avisynth) but is only available properly in avs. A side project I have approaches this issue in an interesting way but due to lack of centralised avs plugin building, you can't expect developers to provide 64bit plugins. The same goes for many other common tools, some of them considerably more useful for day to day computing. Compare this to linux where pretty much everything is available in both with the rare exception of pretty much Skype, or on OSX where a few old system apps are 32bit. Windows on the other hand is an almost 40/60 shift, with 32bit taking up the larger chunk. Microsoft really need to just deprecate 32bit and make the OS itself only 64bit. Nobody is running it on hardware old enough for this to be an issue afterall, and you can still have 32bit software in 64bit. It does however go a long way to start resolving the issue.

That's the problem when you have to be everything to everyone since you have 95% market share. Improvements happen at a glacial pace. And you pretty much have to drag a bunch of people kicking and screaming with every simple decision.

Welp, if Windows 9 is 32bit at all I will rage pretty hard. I don't use Windows and pretty much all the main video tools run better on other systems. Once avs gets ditched, I can't think of any reason to stick to Windows other than a few games here and there you can likely VM anyway. And nothing of value was lost etc.
