Some problems with After Effects

Post by iapple » Wed Jun 27, 2012 2:33 am

Hey everyone!

I'm working on my first project at the moment and I have encountered this problem. When I import a lot of footage in my AEE project lots of ffdshows open. http://i48.tinypic.com/1z17bkk.jpg . And then it starts lagging terribly. What can I do to close them?

Thanks in advance and have a nice day! :)

You'd have to start using lossless clips instead of loading avisynth files directly or through fake avi files.

Ok... which files are you loading in after effects currently, and how are you loading them?

Ummm... I download them in .mkv, then I cut the scene I need with Virtual Dub and compress it using XVID codec. Then I put it in AE.

I'll leave the whole downloading mkv deal to the rules, but as for virtualdub, yes, that is the problem. You shouldn't use xvid, but instead a lossless codec, like utvideo, huffyuv, or lagarith.

The problem is that I have only 111GB Hard Disk and only 20GB free space so I can't afford myself to use those codecs, because like 20seconds take 2GB of space. :/

I'd say buy more HDD space then but given you didn't even buy your anime, I doubt that's an option. UTV isn't as big as you claim, but maybe you should work in a lower resolution or something?

24 minutes at 720p24 are roughly 10 GB with UTVideo YUV420, so yeah, your space should suffice for AMV clipping.

24minutes of 1280x720p24 (so 23.976fps), around 34,000 frames: 11GB in YV12 UTV.
