Glad I got to meet a few folks for the first time too... and sorry if I didn't get a chance to really meet the rest of you. I would have loved to hang out with everyone more (btw, did something strange happen at Denny's?), but I had to help run a few panels. Everyone did an amazing job, and the contest, I thought, went REALLY smoothly. Good job Troy and everyone involved with running the show. I'm going to dedicate much more time to AMVs at the next AX.machina21 wrote:And also, it was good to put faces to usernames. I think i've talked to more people this year than ever and that made up for a con that didn't have too many events aside from AMVs that I wanted to go to. Hopefully I can pull my head outta my ass and try to be more active around here, I always say Im gonna do it and never do so...yea...

Just got home...
Although me and Troy pretty much got worked to death (thanks Troy!), I did have a great time.
The AMV Interactive block from 1:00 pm - 11:00 pm was a HUGE SUCCESS.. Never had I seen a room be packed for EVERY SINGLE AMV EVENT WE HAD! We had to reseat the room every hour and they even had to open up a room to stage lineups
So indeed, AMVs are very popular at AX and although it was very demanding doing the AMV interactive all day long, very well worth it...
And indeed, I thought the best run contest that I've seen in a long time!

That would have been a perfect time to post a screen of the Nightmagi Cometh with Mami there.Radical_Yue wrote:Kisanzi took down Wired Knight.Shin-AMV wrote:congratz to all the winners. I plan to go to AX next year, so I look forward to meeting everyone who plans on going again next year.
Which reminds me, what were the results of the Iron Chef and how do I go about challenging the victor for next year?

Let us not speak of Denny's...blaku92 wrote:(btw, did something strange happen at Denny's?)
I had a great time. I met more editors during this con than ever before, which is pretty much why I decided to come to AX in the first place. You guys are all awesome and I can't wait to come back next year!

That was directed at Shin, methinks. We're barely out of 2012 and we've already got 2013 lined up.The Wired Knight wrote:The hell?Radical_Yue wrote:Shin-AMV wrote:

Re: Anime Expo 2012 AMV Contest Thread - WINNERS ANNOUNCED!!
Congrats to the winners - a lot of the awards came out how I figured that they would (Drama I think was the most surprising). From those aroun me many were pleased with the overall quality of the videos this year minus a few stinkers here and there (can't like everything, myself included since I think a few of the videos were poor as well).
Good contest this year and I am ESPECIALLY pleased to see how packed the AMV room was the entire time, there was a solid line to get in the entire time and a resounding crowd throughout. Though apparently the line for the Top 12 countdown began some three hours before that block. Here's hoping for expanded programming next year (and yes Vlad, the video rooms were very vacant all weekend).
The contest lights were a problem but I can see where Troy was in conflict with policy and law so he did the best with what he was given. Otherwise the contest was VERY smooth and I'm quite pleased.
Iron Chef - glad to edit again. Thank God, without being able to enter AX's amv contest I hadn't edited a video in a whole year - the first time that's happened since I began editing. So editing there finally has motivated me to work again on an AMV (which is good with AWA around the corner). Congrats to Kisanzi, great video. Nice to know it was a close call too which means quality all around (curious as to where the four points difference were between our videos but I don't care enough to press the issue). I'll post my video on the org probably sometime tomorrow.
Also I apologize for dissapearing immediately following the contest - my wife wanted to go to Blum's panel so I rushed down there with her to make certain she got in to see it since it was scheduled to start as soon as Iron Chef ended. I was hoping to make it back up to the AMV room and catch you guys as soon as the panel was out but when I went back up there everyone outside of Vlad and Troy were gone.
Rider, sorry about how the panel went, since there was a dispute over the starting time and we consequently started late I had to cut and rush A LOT of material leaving you little to do. I apologize for that. As for the panel itself, got a body count of 200 from room staff which is awesome, I was busy for a solid half hour with questions following the panel so I plan on renewing it next year either as a two hour block or on two separate days with one hour blocks. For any editors interested I created a fast handout of copyright and Anime fandom. If you would like a copy pm me or e-mail me and I'll get you one tomorrow.

AMV block in the Concourse Hall next year! Vlad, your block was my favorite part of the entire convention and thank you for allowing me to take part in it. i've even become inspired to create my own parody of a well known amv.....Vlad G Pohnert wrote:The AMV Interactive block from 1:00 pm - 11:00 pm was a HUGE SUCCESS.. and Troy, i had no doubts the lighting situation was out of your control. and you still owe me a "beer or something"
sean, i enjoyed being part of your panel, thanks for having me. i hope i'm invited back next year only reserve it for 2 hours next time. it was clearly a hit and you caught everybody's interest very clever innovation.

Well, if you're serious about competing in the AMV chef next year, then just message xstylus about wanting to be the challenger like I did this year. I'll gladly volunteer to be a judge/potential opponent again if it means we get you to come out to AX next year.Shin-AMV wrote:congratz to all the winners. As for the AX events, great work this year. The con really responded well to all of the new additions. Contest went smoothly and every event was packed. And thanks to The Wired Knight for being a great opponent for the AMV chef and giving me a good challenge. You rock man, just wish we could of hung out a bit more this year.
