So then... is this thread considered necro yet?
Let me throw a tennis ball in this room full o' mousetraps here:
For the past week I've been in the midst of rewriting the rules for the AX2013 AMV competition. Completely. From scratch.
Here's your opportunity to provide some feedback. Is there something that has always irked you? Here's your chance to see those concerns get some attention.
Also, here's a sneak peak of one rule that you might likely see on the 2013 rules:
[NOT FINAL NOT FINAL NOT FINAL NOT FINAL!!!]
#) Freshness Rule
No “stale” entries. A “stale” entry is considered any of the following:
a) An entry whereby AX would be the fourth (or more) live event that the entry would be exhibited at.
b) Any entry that is publicly viewable online. Any public download links must be pulled and remain offline until after the competition.
c) Any entry that was shown at any live event prior to July 1st, 2012.

Ive always liked a "freshness rule" to limit it to videos made since the previous year's convention
(Oh and sorry if my ribbing ya about glitching Vlad's video seemed mean, it was kinda one of those "Im not the only one now" moments for me)

C is fine. A and B are just ridiculous - they're more work for you, and you'll eventually screw up, and choose not to uniformly enforce that rule. You don't want to go back to punishing honest people for being honest.

If those are the rules you're thinking of, you might as well just adopt the exclusivity rules of Japan Expo.

Dunno what their previous rules were, but JX's present rules don't appear to have an exclusivity rule, unless I read incorrectly. The only requirement was that it not have been posted online yet, which seems very reasonable to me. Though depending on feedback I might relax it to say that if you've presently got your video posted online, you must pull it until after the competition.drewaconclusion wrote:If those are the rules you're thinking of, you might as well just adopt the exclusivity rules of Japan Expo.
Edit: Yep, I misread. JX has an exclusivity rule. And nope, I will never put such a rule in.

Trying to cut back on the number of entries you have to go through eh? lol...contest is probably gonna suffer a LOT of those are the rules. Not saying you won't get good videos, but some people do usually post online after the first convention it premieres at, so all of those videos would no longer qualify.xstylus wrote:[NOT FINAL NOT FINAL NOT FINAL NOT FINAL!!!]

I think it would be better to try and adapt Otakon's rules into AX...
I think it'll be easier instead of looking for every video that premiered online or at cons before AX.
Keep the year freshness rule, but like Otakon, if an AMV won first place somewhere else before a certain date, it gets DQ'd.

Yeah... I think I'll relax that for the first year or so. In future years after the event has re-established some clout I might decide to firm it back up, but for now, small steps.l33tmeatwad wrote:Trying to cut back on the number of entries you have to go through eh? lol...contest is probably gonna suffer a LOT of those are the rules. Changed to:
b) Any entry that is publicly viewable online. Any public download links to your video must be pulled and remain offline until after the competition.
I do like the freshness principle behind Otakon's rule. I just don't like how it penalizes winners. I also would like to implement something that discourages videos where we're the last stop after a long tour of practically every other large con.Kazemon15 wrote:I think it would be better to try and adapt Otakon's rules into AX...

The last two years have been relatively quiet on the "drama" front ( unfortunately). But if ya want people yelling and screaming at each other again, well...Shin-AMV wrote:ThisBasharOfTheAges wrote:C is fine.
