Suggestions needed on how to improve quality
Hi, I tried various programs to try to improve the quality of this amv--but haven't been able to find anything to make it high quality--suggestions anyone?
Here is an image of the problem:

What is its native resolution? I'll look closer when I get to work, but it sure seems to me that you are dealing with an older 4:3 SD anime. I see no need to really filter and I'd suggest you beware of over filtering.
Also you should be using avisynth.

Yes, it was 4:3. I used avisynth. When I rip the DVD, it is 720 x 480.

And as part of the whole footage prep process you make it 640x480 because all the modern displays you're going to play it back on have square pixels.xcanada wrote:Yes, it was 4:3. I used avisynth. When I rip the DVD, it is 720 x 480.

Besides a resolution change to 640x480, it might benefit from some noise reduction or temporal smoothing. Heavy stress on the might. I see what does seem to be some fairly annoying noise, but you don't want to eliminate grain or texture at the same time. I'd say be conservative with any filters you choose to apply.

My computer is a Windows system, I'm not sure if it would be different on your Mac.
I might be doing the ripping wrong -- I used dvd decrypter and AutoGK. Do you think that would cause the problem?

Should I use dvd decrypter before DGIndex and then avisynth?
I have read the ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's guide, but I found autogk online and I wasn't sure what it was doing.

DVD decrypter stopped being the go-to software because of different encoding schemes showing up and the project being shut down in 2005. Have you read the guide lately?
