I'd rather be safe and use 3rd party solutions that don't put me at risk. It's not the base PDF reader functionality that has the vulnerabilities, its the swiss army knife BS they pack in with it that opens up the attack vectors.

That would be "Preview". As for those PC users who don't trust Adobe's multidoeverything'o'matic software, Foxit is a free PDF reader for PC that's lightweight and works pretty decently.
