So, what did those totals end up being? Or are you waiting until all the DQs are handed before info-dumping?

I'll announce final totals at con. I will say that it was our second largest turnout though (2011 was the largest).BasharOfTheAges wrote:So, what did those totals end up being? Or are you waiting until all the DQs are handed before info-dumping?
I should get one hiccup out of the way now though, and it pertains to the categories themselves.
After having thoroughly reviewed the entire crop of entries for category fitment and rules adherence, and taking into a consideration a trend Vlad and I had noticed at SakuraCon and other events, we looked at the results and concluded that adjustments had become unavoidably necessary in order for the Director's Chair we award to one particular category to actually mean something.
We decided to rename, redefine, and rebalance two categories: Comedy/Humor, and Fun/Dance. We obviously did not do this lightly, and we went through a long laborious process of evaluating each entry one at a time (multiple times) to make certain we were placing it in the category where it would shine the most. We feel that our hard work paid off and that the outcome is very much for the better.
The revised category names are "Fun/Humor", and "Upbeat/Dance".
Personally, I'm extremely pleased with how all the categories turned out. This is the most balanced spread of entries I've ever seen at an AX. Ultimately we will have six strong categories and one damn good event.
Judging begins this week.

Judging...this week?
Sure, make me more stressed out than I already am now! With finals, final papers and now nail biting judging.... I'm gonna pull out my hair now. (Nah I kid )

@troy: In the audience's mind it'll still be comedy.

At first I didn't get the difference but then I realized how it would directly apply to one of mine. Subtle, but I get it. I guess we'll see!xstylus wrote:

You're right, the difference between "Humor" and "Comedy" is subtle, just like the difference between "humorous" and "hilarious". The "Humor" videos compete very capably with the "Fun" videos, plus the category is well populated now, so it's a proper competition. In my opinion it was a smart move that balanced things out tremendously.NightMistress85 wrote:At first I didn't get the difference but then I realized how it would directly apply to one of mine. One thing I may consider for next year is the idea of having "flexible" categories, loosely akin to how Animethon does things. Been learning much from Vlad, I have. Need to give it some more thought but that idea is on the table.
