Re: Your Life Story
How you got into AMVs: In 2006, a friend of mine showed me an AMV on the telephone. Then later in 2008 I started editing because I got a PC and Windows Movie Maker.
How you came up with your screen name: Because Diego94 was already used on YouTube. My friends used to call me Diegao sometimes, so I chose diegao94.
How you discovered the Org: I don't remember very well, I think in a conversation on an Italian forum.
Tell me about your studio, like how you joined/created it, etc... Rising Production. Created in 2008 with Vares, it was only a small group on Youtube, while now is the best Italian studio
Favorite genre to edit and why: Action. Actually, 90% of my productions are action videos. It's my favourite one because I like giving energy and impact to my videos, and it's really enjoyable watch them later.
Favorite newbie mistake you've made: I can't remember.
First contest experience: In 2008: it was a small Italian contest. I placed 4th.
Best experience you've had thus far with the community: Black Gate Studio, an old and dead Italian forum. It had a great community and there have been same really good moments with them. I miss them very much.
Worst experience with the community: The Animemusicvideos.it experience. Even if I grew a lot in that period.
Why you edit: Because I like it. And I have time to do it.
Future goals: Make the RP Contest an important one. Realize my current projects. Find a job.

Re: Your Life Story
How you got into AMVs: I think in 1995 I found a local anime club where one of the guys edited together the most current anime from Japan to music to show the club what was current. A little bit later I saw my first real AMV which was Everything She Does is Magic by Bobby C-Ko Beaver... and the rest was history as I grabbed 2 VCRs and made my first AMV. Later I re-masted that video (Escaflowne to O Fortuna) and won an award at AX which was my first...
How you came up with your screen name: My buddy knew Japanese and he suggested it... Maboroshi = phantom, vision, illusion, dream. I also was trying to learn 3D animation so I thought it was a good fit.
How you discovered the Org: I forget who mentioned it... I am the 64th member to join the org so I guess back then I was late to find out about it lol. I think it was probably mentioned on the old yahoo group which was this first big AMV online community back in the day.
Tell me about your studio, like how you joined/created it, etc... (If you're not in a studio, say why ): Well I am Maboroshi Studio and I am the only member lol... back when I started making AMVs there were no groups really. I did edit with a buddy on some projects, but it was mostly me. Back in the day I had a pretty bad rep as being a total dbag trash talker on the net, but when everyone met me in person at cons everyone usually liked me lol...
Favorite genre to edit and why: I am a sucker for dramatic action / soundtrack BGM music... I love creating an emotional flow / bond in my AMVs. Still I also love to make some messed up videos and I bet most everyone here that is current has not seen the infamous Freakshow videos.
Favorite newbie mistake you've made: (Give us a good cringe-worthy one!) Asking Bobby C-ko Beaver if I could re-master one of the videos and trading tapes him... he tore me to shreds saying my videos sucked and he threw the tape into the trash after watching a couple of my videos. Probably not a good idea to ask a well known AMV guy at the time if I could re-master one of his videos... lol
First contest experience: A-kon 98 and the infamous Freakshow I & II showing... it was epic watching the Music Video Contest room empty! Then later we were at a room that had some ADV guys who heard what happened and asked to see the video. They loved it and asked what the heck was the anime! Later that year ADV released that very same anime Kakugo No Susume aka Apocalypse Zero. I also met Brad Demoss and one of my best friends so it was a pretty epic first con experience...
Best experience you've had thus far with the community: I guess the org really marked a change in AMVs for me as when I started it was very tight knit / small and everyone knew everyone. After the org hit and technology became much more affordable AMVs exploded and the feel was totally different. Back when the org started I was not super active, but I am enjoying it a bit more now.
Worst experience with the community: When I announced my retirement over 10 years ago the thread turned a bit nasty because I also left some criticism for the org as to why I didn't enjoy it anymore. The older AMV creators understood what I was saying, but the younger editors tore into me lol...
Why you edit: (If you don't edit anymore, explain yo'self!) I love anime and telling stories... I did stop editing for about 10 years due to a lack of time after graduating college, but I am back now. I edit what I like and not concerned with winning / pleasing the fans often...
Future goals: (Editing, non-editing, whatevers) One of my first goals was to not embarrass myself after not editing for 10+ years and make he finals in some AMV contests. I think I haven't embarrassed myself and I am glad to report I have made the finals in all 4 cons I submitted videos to which is a lot more difficult today as there are so many more editors. I also want to learn how to get my source looking as awesome... sorry I am from the analog to digital capture days! Finally I want to make some crazy big project using AE lol... the videos are pretty insane today with the effects / constant motion.

How?! Because here we had anime magazines featuring AMV's into a CD-rom lol. I'm
pretty sure they were in one of those (Because of the songs, maybe they were coincidences)

Well I stopped editing around 2002 I think... and just recently got back into editing so total I have been editing less than 10 years. That is pretty cool how AMVs made it all the way to your neck of the wood.FarmXD wrote:Whoa!! Such a long time! And I thought my 12 years in amv bussiness was too much.MaboroshiStudio wrote: (...)

Re: Your Life Story
How you got into AMVs: Much like Scott, I made my first video before I realized it was an actual hobby. Back in mid-late 1999, somebody had ripped all of the FMVs from Final Fantasy 8 and put them online somewhere. I'm pretty sure it was either before or right around when it was being released in the states, so I immediately snatched them up and watched them and loved them. A few months later, somebody sent me the song Gravity of Love by Enigma. During one moment in the song, I saw one of the clips from the ending of FF8 hit with one specific moment in the song. Well, I had also been playing around with an early version of Adobe Premiere at the time, so I wondered what it would look like if I matched those 2 things up (literally just those 2 moments). So I did, and totally fell in love. I spent the rest of the day looking for other cool moments in the FMVs to match up to the song until I had made a whole video. I was a member of a FF fan site called FFShrine at the time, and decided to share it with them and it got a huge reaction. So I made more. Eventually somebody mentioned the term "AMVs" and after some researching realized that this was something people had been doing for a while by that point.
How you came up with your screen name: Hi. I'm Brad.
(ok fine. I was formerly known as AtomX. At the same time as I originally got into editing, I was also "creating" really awful electronic music. I wanted to put my music on mp3.com and needed a name. I had been going by Atom for a long while, based on Astro Boy which I had watched as a kid. Somebody had put a big "X" on my computer, and since "Atom" was taken, and I made all my music on my computer, I just put em together. Several years back I decided to just drop the name and go by Brad on the Org, though I still use atomx on twitter.)
How you discovered the Org: I had joined the AMV Mailing List back then, mostly as a lurker. I had seen Phade talking about setting up the Org and thought it was a great idea. I was working for a web design company at the time and decided to lend him a hand with some design stuff. Then I got busy... and never actually followed through on my help... But anyways, he posted it up and I signed up day 1.
Tell me about your studio, like how you joined/created it, etc... (If you're not in a studio, say why ): Despite popular belief, I am not nor was I ever in RDS. I don't know why. I was just always solo. No good reason.
Favorite genre to edit and why: Not that I edit anymore, but when I did, drama/romance. I'm a big ol softy.
Favorite newbie mistake you've made: (Give us a good cringe-worthy one!) Umm.. I'm positive I made a million of them starting out but I can't think of any one specific thing.
First contest experience: I remember submitting one of my early FF videos to some con via VHS, but then didn't do anything until maybe 2004-2005? My problem is I have a real shit memory and can't remember the simplest of things. I know my first real con experience was at ACen... some year...
Best experience you've had thus far with the community: AWA 2006. Easily. Whole weekend was just awesome. Unless you count mine and Liz's wedding, which I guess you could considering the majority of my AMV friends were there. That night will top just about anything. So much fun.
Worst experience with the community: Hmm... I don't really know. Again, coming back to the whole bad memory thing. I remember there being some kind of drama-ish crap surrounding one of the Online AMV Iron Chef things but even that was pretty benign.
Why you edit: (If you don't edit anymore, explain yo'self!) The last real AMV thing I edited was back in 2007, which was my collab with Liz (Our Innocence). In 2006 I had moved to Chicago to finally go back to school (I had immediately got a career-job out of high school which unfortunately didn't last, and then just worked freelance and odd-jobs here and there afterwards) to pursue motion graphics and animation. This drive was really born out of my AMV hobby. Thing is, once I got into it as a career goal, it really didn't seem like spending my time editing/doing-motion-graphics for something that I wouldn't use in my future demo reel was the best plan. That and I didn't really watch much anime at all by that point so I stopped getting as many ideas for videos. I still enjoyed the community aspect though and liked the idea of helping others out, so I started doing the Iron Chef tournaments and had big plans to set up a huge AMV Training site (AMV101.com) that would have constantly updated video tutorials about all sorts of topics related to the hobby. This of course, did not pan out...
Future goals: (Editing, non-editing, whatevers) Too many. I don't really have any plans of editing AMVs again. I get the occasional idea in my head, but normally it's just "I want to do SOMETHING with this song" but typically I see original animation in my head, which based on my own laziness, will likely never happen. As far as other goals, I want to make a game, write a comic, create a short animated film, get into app development, create a couple cool web site ideas, etc. It's sort of a problem, having this many goals. Makes me not focus on any of them. But maybe someday :O

Re: Your Life Story
How you got into AMVs: I've always liked music videos in general -- been a fan of VH1 for a long time (and still watch VH1 Classic occasionally). I stumbled across fan-created AMVs while searching FilePlanet in late 2002, and thought they were interesting and wanted to try my hand at them eventually.
How you came up with your screen name: I used to help people with Quest for Glory games back in 1990 on Prodigy Network. The name pretty much stuck with me all this time.
How you discovered the Org: Some of the FilePlanet videos linked to the Org, so I came here to check it out.
Tell me about your studio: Ileia created "Serious Business Studios" temporarily before moving into Corndog Vid-Vids, but Kionon, myself, and a few others that were a part of it decided to keep the name. We're pretty loose-knit now, not really a solid studio anymore, but we still use the name and keep it alive.
Favorite genre to edit and why: Drama, as there's a lot of emotion you can express in it and storytelling is more important than just being "flashy".
Favorite newbie mistake you've made: Using DVD2AVI for sourcing. Quite a few of my older AMVs are rather poor chiefly because of this. A lot of #AMV regulars guided me to how to do better sourcing, and I've been getting better and better as I've gone along.
First contest experience: Tekkoshocon 4 (2006) in Pittsburgh, where I met quite a few people who were there at the time: Aluminum Studios, Ashyukun, Illia Sadri, Bryan Minnix, EditingHermit, even RollTheStampede (who was passing through that night and stopped by to watch the contest).
Best experience you've had thus far with the community: Pretty much getting to know and then later meet everyone that I talked to online. I like the dinners, the parties, and spending time with friends that I've made year to year.
Worst experience with the community: No individual worse experience, but lately I've had less time with many people here -- something I hope to change when I become less worried about real life again.
Why you edit: Mainly because I still feel like I have a lot to express and do. I'm always improving, little by little, and just feel like doing so. I have a large library of anime and music to go through, so there's a lot of ideas I still have to get to.
Future goals: Continuing to serve the community in many little ways, continuing to bring AMVs to convention crowds, and reinforcing some of the bigger picture that eventually need to (and hopefully will) get done.

I didn't create SBS, it was a joint effort by some people on the CDVV forums and in #AMV....and it was only a brief joke in response to some hilariously stupid studio drama on the forums at the time. I didn't move into CDVV, I was already in it (I had started it in 2004...) and I never "left" it, even, since SBS wasn't even a real studio. That was kind of the whole point of it, poking fun at very serious studio stuff, haha. That's why we named it that.

So I used to edit sans pseudonym, but as one of my favorite shows from the 90's, The Critic, became a bit of an internet meme (or at least in the DC++ community) around 2000; my roommate at the time came barging into my room while some of the audio was playing, of course from the Jurassic Park II scene, and was like "THERE IT IS!" It just stuck from there. I like it, and last year thanks to a con coordinator friend I got to meet Mike Reiss, creator of the show. Turns out he's just a really cool guy and of course I had to tell him the story.
How you discovered the Org:
Random derping on the interwebs
Tell me about your studio, like how you joined/created it, etc...
Man, what a story. So Addy and I met at AWA 2003 at the editors dinner and soon began hanging out. We made an abomination called Fappage in 2004 and attributed it to "Bad Raptor." A play on his his avatar at the time, Vegeta from that DZB show in the pink "bad man" jacket, and the reptilian source of my editing name. Later that year we met chaosprojects at Techwoodcon and planned a group preregistration for AWA but needed a group name. "Chaotic Bad Raptor" was the obvious choice, and being that we all
Favorite genre to edit and why:
Derp. Why? It's fun and mindless.
Favorite newbie mistake you've made:
King of Spayn. Nuff said. And I enjoy the feces out of it every year.
First contest experience:
Anime Express 2001(? maybe 02, can't recall.) Basically, (Addy after he started coming with and) I raped this contest every year we entered. Met Jared, Dave, Animebelle and a few other faces through this con. Great times!
Best experience you've had thus far with the community:
Way too many to count. I'll just pull a Brad, cop out and say my wedding. A magical night to say the least! And we had an AMVJ instead of the traditional DJ, so it's AMV related.
Worst experience with the community:
The loss of so many great people.
Why you edit:
To show the dicknugget it can be done.
Future goals:
Um.................................... I have some stuff in the works but I hate to divulge them as it means I probably get lazy, sated and never finish. Which is sadly the norm. There are some awards I want to win and want to constantly discover new techniques. I guess my goals are kind of vague, but I'm happy with what I do now even though it dated and lacks any real innovation. But damnit, it's fun! Making 50+ videos this year has really opened my eyes to what I enjoy most about AMVing, the editing process; and what I enjoy about the community, the people. I have met so many great friends here, and most people are so much fun to hang out with. It's the best community out there in internetland

Oh what, how did I miss this
How you got into AMVs:
Back in 1995-1997 or so, I was a member of a community called Pseudo. Mainly I lurked in their IRC channel for good times. Pseudo fell apart, and after a couple of attempts to revive it, Fire_Starter was like "eh, screw it, you should just hang out in #AMV, people actually talk about stuff there." I really hadn't seen many or given much thought to AMVs at that time, but people linked me some of the big videos at the time, and I was like "hey, this is actually pretty cool, and these guys really put a lot of effort into their work!" So I stuck around. I didn't register for the forums until sometime later.
How you came up with your screen name:
ZephyrStar was a lame title given to a character in a lame story I wrote in high school. At some point I broke my forum account, so I briefly went by "hoshinokaze" instead. Koop shortened that to hoshinolamenobody.
How you discovered the Org:
I blame Fire_Starter and Stratus (who created an account, told me about Euphoria, and promptly disappeared forever).
Tell me about your studio, like how you joined/created it, etc... (If you're not in a studio, say why )
I was kidnapped while I was on a bender in Calcutta by Ileia and Fall_Child42. In all honesty though, at first I really hated the idea of people being all serious about studios and editing competitively and getting all huffy about stuff. I wanted to do my own thing (I still do my own thing), but when I realized that CDVV was just a group of friends who shared common interests and made stuff for FUN, I happily agreed to join. Best decision ever.
Favorite genre to edit and why:
Not really a genre, but in a word, "concept."
If I had to pick an actual genre... uh... whimsical?
Oh no, you know what, the correct answer is Awesomecore.
Favorite newbie mistake you've made: (Give us a good cringe-worthy one!)
AWA 2006 was my first convention. It was also the first time I met anyone from the org in person. I had been talking with Niotex about a panel he was doing, and he had wanted me there to show off some of the 3D behind-the-scenes work I had done for daydream. Koop also asked me to come see his panel, and somehow I got the two mixed up, so I completely missed the panel I was supposed to be at. I also didn't really want to be "that guy" at the con who butted into the group dynamic, so I said my hellos and stuff, but then went off and did my own thing. Turns out I was totally wrong about being "that guy," because after the con everyone was like "Dude, where the hell were you?! You should have come and hung out!" I was sad, but then it was time for Acen, so I went to Chicago, crashed the party, and was "that guy."
As far as actually making AMVs go, I came from an animation background originally, so learning to edit music videos has been challenging, and there are still things I want to improve upon (despite making an action video, I still feel like I suck at making them, I should make more). I still don't like the 3D work I did in daydream, it was pretty contrived, but people seem to like it. I've been working on a... thing that should remedy my own feelings about 3D in AMVs.
First contest experience:
Made a Honey and Clover video, put it in AWA Expo. Didn't win anything.
First win was at Acen 2007, won best upbeat or dance, don't remember.
Still gunning for an AWA Master's jacket, an NDK Asuka, and that chair thing they give you at AX.
Best experience you've had thus far with the community:
I have made some of the best friends in my life being in this community.
Worst experience with the community:
Watching people get in fights over stuff. Some of it justified, some of it not, I just hate it when people can't get along.
Why you edit: (If you don't edit anymore, explain yo'self!)
Fun. And yeah I still edit. Was trying to make AWA Master's this year, didn't quite get done on time, saving it up for next time. Couple of other things planned, including some clips for Ponies: Anthology III.
Future goals: (Editing, non-editing, whatevers)
I'm making an anime styled movie, slowly but surely. I've not been very vocal about it as of late, but that's because I've been working on getting it done. I don't plan on it being the only film I make, I've already written another complete script, and I have the groundwork laid for something like 10 more after that. Right now I'm coming up with a methodology that will ensure I can maintain a similar level of quality throughout all these things and actually get them done in a timely manner. That's been the biggest hurdle so far. I should probably update my website and blog and stuff with some actual frames from finished scenes or something >_>
