I don't want any rumors spreading about DDR3 (4th Mix) track selection yet, because as of now there IS nothing official. Quu and I have been working something out, but the final OK has to come down from Brad.

The one thing I can say is this: a lot of people were upset about how tracks were assigned for DDR2. Quu and I have been working on a system that is fair to both past editors and new people who want to get involved. But again, we haven't talked about it with Brad yet. As a show of good faith, I'm giving up my early track pick. I'll basically take one of the leftovers.

But ErMaC is right. We don't just open up the track selection to the public because people flake out left and right. I've had to reassign editors to 5 tracks in the past month and a half. Just a couple days ago someone else dropped out. It's hard enough managing 30 editors. DDR3 has some FIFTY tracks! I am going to go insane next year.
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

Damn, I don' know why, but being consider 'open public' by other AMV creators REALLY irks me. (Okay, everything irks me these days, but you know what I mean.) I mean, are you guys some kinda secret society, an those of us who aren't in the 'in crowd' aren't the REAL AMV creators in your eyes? I think if someone wants in, they should be given a shot. It SHOULD be based on ability, dammit. Oh well, not like anyone listens to me anyway.

Well, if it really bothers you, TR, than just go out, find the most popular songs in the DRR 4th Mix and make your own videos to them (and make sure they're damn good) and submit to AWA. I mean, it's not like they own the copyright to DDR, so what's stopping you? If you don't like the whole closed society thing, what better way to express your disapproval than to one-up them at the same contest?

I guess they can give out the same track to four or five editors so they have more chance that the track will actually be done. But try to be irrealistic for a moment: if everyone of them finishes the track, then what happens? Who gets discarded? Who decides?

You can't simply try to "give people a chance" because:

1) You will be flooded by requests

2) 80% of them will never finish their track

This doesn't mean that you, or I, or anyone else can't do that. It's simply a coordination problem... and you work better with people you know and trust.

Just my .02$ in...
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Then it will NEVER get done. Period.

We're not trying to be elitist. The first project, anyone who wanted to sign up could sign up. People showed up, claimed the juiciest tracks, and then were never heard from again. Lee Thompson, Nic Neidenbach, Nathan Bezner, myself, and several others picked up the slack a WEEK before the convention (the deadline had been 3 MONTHS before the convention), doing up to 3 videos in 2 or 3 days.

So for the second project, the most trusted editors from the first one got first pick. Do you not find that concept fair? Should we have just opened up the entire list and get burned by all the deadbeats again and blow off all the people who were obviously dedicated and devoted? Many people sweat blood for the first project to make up for those others.

The first year, it was just Brad in charge. This year has been sort of an experiment...Brad oversees, Quu handles the tech, I keep tabs on people to make sure they're keeping in contact and not flaking out. So next year we can probably handle a wider variety of editors. It's not about who knows who, who's "popular," who's "good," etc. At the end, it truly is about the FEASIBILITY of getting the project done. If we open up a "DDR Open Call!" thread on this forum and let people sign up for tracks and set a deadline, I can guarantee you we'll have a less than 20% follow-through rate by the deadline. Guarantee.

I know it doesn't sound like it, but this project has always been about fun. But it only takes 1 or 2 lazy/selfish/flakey people to ruin the fun for 30-40 people who've slaved for months (not to mention all the viewers eagerly awaiting the project). And that's just fucking unacceptable.
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

A couple reason why dat won't work.

1) People would look at the DDR project, then look at another DDR based thing that someone else (me did) an basically go "*pppht* Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight. What kinda wanabe is this guy supposed to be?"

2) I THOUGHT the DDR project had SOMETHING to do wit camaraderie. Unfortunately, it does but only for the chosen few who are in tight wit the 'icons' of this artform. While the rest of us who would simply LIKE to be involved wit comunity projects like that are basically told we can't because we're not 'in'.

1) This would only be an issue if you created an average DDR video. Which is why I said make sure it's damn good.

2) Camaraderie? AMV community? These are two things that do not go together. You should know that by now!

Now, personally I don't really see the appeal of this project, but if I were to go about this I would make a hybrid between a public and a private project, sort of like a certain other creator is organizing. What you do is send out your initial invitations to your "trusted" creators. Don't announce anything. If someone outside of this group takes the time to actually send an e-mail off to you and asks to participate, give him a shot. Allow other creators to invite others. Just don't go onto the boards and shout "DDR PROJECT OPEN CALL!" This way, you don't get a flood of people who thought it was a good idea at the time but soon lost interest and anyone who wants to participate can. And sure, if you get a lot of entries for the same vid, why not make a little contest out of it?

icons???

who dat?

its hard to explain.... but... thsi year is an experiment...

last year was incredibly chaotic... and we got burned REALLY badly...

trust me... i was burned proably the worst... as the stupid jerk who editing the project at the last minute AT THE CON

I swore we would never do the eidting at the con again....

for the 2nd mix... there were very few tracks... 26 of them open for other editors.... (Brad does one... and the opening and closing for 29 tracks total)

so with only 26 tracks... and the hedious drop out rate of the first project still stinging... it was decided to keep a bit more controll the second time...

people who did mutliple tracks on the first project got first dibs.... and was assigned two tracks... do dii with as they pleased... since at the time the organization was not sorted out...

we did not know if we could do it a second year... trust me... after the first year i didn't know if we could do it (and we almost did not... thanks to so many problems)

but... we got stronger...

I am keeping a VERY tight controll of the tech side of things... and Hsien is keeping very good tabs on peoples progress....

if things work out as well as they have been... we are seriousl looking to make the third project (mix not decided yet) more open...

but ceritna things will always be...

People who perform well on previous DDR projects get first dibs on newer projects...

there was some lost data on the first project... and we will try to correct it on the third... for participation...

in the end... if it is not fun for Hsien, Brad, and Me... then there will be no project...

I personally am very against "cliques" that you think form... and will go out of my way to open things...

but I will not get burned again... i will give people a chance... but only one...
