The first project was 100% open to ANYONE.TommyRude wrote:alternatefutures wrote: 2) I THOUGHT the DDR project had SOMETHING to do wit camaraderie. Unfortunately, it does but only for the chosen few who are in tight wit the 'icons' of this artform. While the rest of us who would simply LIKE to be involved wit comunity projects like that are basically told we can't because we're not 'in'.
The second project is closed because it's an experiment in how we can actually organize everything so the project doesn't become a logistical nightmare (which it already is, in some ways).
The third project will probably open up a bit, based on what we've learned this year. But, as with many things, people that busted their asses for us in previous years will have priority.
I'm very sorry that you feel left out right now, while the second project is in its final stages of progress. There will be a great many people left out of the 3rd project simply because there aren't enough tracks to go around, and I'm sorry about that too. But you need to be realistic about this. This is a fucking TOUGH project to put together, and someone somewhere has to exert SOME sort of control over it in order for it to get done. You try organizing 30 procrastinating otaku from all over the world. Then invite anyone else who thinks it might be "neat" to be involved, and try to keep every single one of them on task and on schedule. Impossible.
And also, this isn't some "prestigious" thing, and it's not about "status." It was a bunch of people who brainstormed an idea, put it together, and somehow it became popular. It just happens to be the only mass AMV project around...so what's stopping people from making others?? This is just ONE project, not the be-all end-all of the AMV world. ErMaC's Ani-Para project is having trouble getting off the ground because of source issues, otherwise it's a sound idea that people could get involved with. If you have an idea for something on this scale, why not see what you can do to try to put it in motion?
I have no idea how to use this new forum.

That's not true. Only one track per person next year. How the rest of the tracks will be assigned, I can't say yet, but it WILL be opened up more.ErMaC wrote: next year's assignments will be going to the editors who completed tracks this year on time, and then they will sub-assign their tracks.

Hmm, this sounds interesting. I'll need to download some vids from the other DDR project though, because I'm still a little confused as to what is actually being done. Are these basically dance AMVs, edited like DDR appears when you play it, or am I way off the mark here?
On a side note, I saw a 6 year old kid kill a group of kids more than twice his age in DDR this afternoon. I was laughing so hard I could barely play my game of Tekken 4.

I think that that even this project had a lot of new editors on it as well. I don't think it ever did belong in some elite circle of editors, but those who have shown effort and commitment to past projects will always be asked to come back. I think this is reality and happens in any collaborated project no matter what it is.
Last year I did a track in 2 days a few weeks before the con, and then sent it priority mail to Brad. Then Sept 11 happened and delayed the package so I had to Fed Ex it. That finally ended up costing me a wake less weekend and about $50 (US) just to get it there. If I didn't do it as had others, then project would of never been finished or released and no other projects would been done! I know others sacrificed their schooling time to finish it (actually choosing editing over marks!!). My point? This does not have to happen if there is a firm desire from the editors to finish their track(s) or at least take the responsibility of making sure they get someone else if they can't. Not everyone can make that kind of commitment or will take that responsibility, thus some sort of selection process must be used.
I feel it's important to give the opportunity for as many editors as possible to get on board, but logistically this is impossible and may also lead to the whole project not being done on time from those who take a track and don't do anything up to the last minute with it. Then it becomes so unfair to everyone else as well.
All I can say is that no matter what, there will be always those who will feel that they were cheated out of a track or not given the opportunity. This sort of becomes the same idea as a contest having to choose limited selections for the finals. There is always complains about not making the cut as well.
If more people were willing to do all the hard work of coordinating other projects as well, this too would open the door to more editors being involved. But this requires other people to step up to the plate without having the same individuals having to do it all as well. Just a though to those who feel there are not enough collaborated projects to include everyone…

Ohh...Beatmania tehehehe..they have some great tracks ^^
And my personal two cents.
I think that the project "is" being handled the best way it can be.
People often say that they want to do soemthing then they got on. It's like group assignment at school, if you don't finish your part you bring everyone else down...it doens't hurt just you , yet everyone else involed.
The way things are going right now "work" and that's what matters. I would hate to see the next project have last minute people droping out....that would put far to much stress on everyone.
I don't wanna start an arguement

My entire Feel the Rhythm series uses DDR songs.
I'd like to be in this project. The sad thing is, I don't know any of these "pro artists" in person and I think I do have a chance. After all, what's been finished of FtR is in top 10% Dance vids on this site. Does that amount to something?
Nah, I won't complain. That'd just mean I think too much of myself. However, I'd like to do something to help out even a little. These are 4 min. songs right?

I've actually really been interested in starting a Beatmania project (though I don't believe any of the BM/IIDX OSTs have megamixes. would have to mix em myself or get someone else to). DanceManiaX 1 & 2 both have megamixes but they do share a BUNCH of the same songs with the previous DDR project (though theyre remixes). It'd really look like a bunch of the same stuff. Plus most of the DMX music sounds very similar in its tone (think 10 billion Hyper KCP mixes.. oyyyy).
With Beatmania, the musical genres are REALLY varied...
Hmm.. I'm gonna have to look into this.
