and a small suggestion. There is this small thing that we do in our ENP forum called "AMVs of the Month" which is basically a thread @ the end of each month that presents the top 5 AMVs that were announced on our forum within that month. The purpose is to show recognition and appreciation to the videos one more time (since videos are mostly forgotten after 2-3 days of being announced if they're not sexeh as hell). So ya I believe that if the org was to make similar threads it would boost up the activity, and editors who drop-and-go are more likely to stay and attend that. Perhaps people will even be interested in watching other announcements to see who is more likely to get a place in the thread.

Re: Lack of activity in op exchanges...
I know most wouldn't want to do it but assuming that the redesign does happen one way to get more people here would actually be through youtube. Some people here have a fairly large subscriber base on youtube, and between everyone thousands of people could come over here if people just made like a minute long video basically advertising the site.
Will all of them stay if this were to happen? Hell no, but if a few hundred stayed and half of that became active? That would be a huge boost for the site. Of course you would want to do this after the potential redesign but it could work. I do realize many might not like this idea since it will be a bumpy transition and there is that general bias against youtube only editors here from a noticeable chunk of our members. But if you set that aside and just weed out the bad apples that really do just want instant gratification I'm sure you could grow the community here.
It's just an idea and would probably never happen but I personally haven't seen anyone mention it before and I feel it's a legitimate idea either way.

Re: Lack of activity in op exchanges...
Okay nothing against the youtube editors, but this site has been successful because it does not draw attention to itself. We don't have videos be yanked like youtube has done or cut out the audio. We only had one cease and desist order from Windup Records because of some letter a fan wrote into them asking about the videos. Youtube in my opinion is a bad idea. Yes you can reach more people through it, but at what cost or risk.
This site at least from my view is a way to share videos with other editors. Having an editor community if you will. Sure your video may not reach 10's of thousands of people, but if it reaches over a couple thousand editors here and you can get some honest feedback. To me that's what this site is about. Not some popularity contest. Will I use youtube to put up my videos, yes to reach more "fans" of the show. However I will not link them here to the org from youtube. I submit my videos to a lot of contest and I mention the animemusicvideos.org to the people at the conventions and give them my editor name to look up the videos.
People here are helpful. This site like I said is meant to be an editor community.
So here's my question. Why make ourselves a bigger target just to have something we love and enjoy taken away from us? Just because the music industry are some greedy people. (I could use some other few choice words but willn't.)

Re: Lack of activity in op exchanges...
I originally joined around this sites peek and I started on youtube. I remember a clear line that was basically known among editors that started on youtube and even members from here. If you wanna improve go to the org and get feedback, but be prepared to hear some stuff you might not like. While the reputation of the org scared off some I think it made many people(like me) join hoping to learn from everyone here. Nowadays the org isn't even on most editors radar. Youtube far outnumbers all of us and most of them don't even know we exist or don't care enough to learn about the site. I just feel if people knew many of their favorite editors post here, and learned here they would be interested. I get there would be a little risk but I can promise you, all the advertising you could do at cons telling people about it yourself wont change the fact this site has by far lost more active members than its gained. Something needs to happen at some point =\. Some people will always come here chat and post videos but most will move on eventually if things only get worse. I feel like a step in the right direction with the contests like Team Warfare helps but if no one outside of the org knows about it what does it do?(besides just create some fun for those of us here) Realistically I feel like this site is fine at the moment but if anyone wants to see the "glory days" come back we would need large numbers of new members and what I mentioned was just a way to do it. I understand why you and many others may not like the idea but it would probably work at least.

Re: Lack of activity in op exchanges...
I agree it would work. However back before youtube this site was big! So we have to think back to 12 years ago how did we get so many members? What did we do back then? I'm just scared with youtube being as stricked as it is, that the org may draw more attention to itself and get hit hard. There are some big editor conventions coming up, what if we made business cards and give them out to people advertising the org. Go to the conventions or heck have them passed out at AMV Contests. I think that would get people to come back here.
As far as youtube editors. If you see youtube editors you like, send them a message and have them join the org and explain to them what it is. I mean it is a little more work, but at least we aren't putting it completely out in the open to where the music industry is going to strick us down.

Re: Lack of activity in op exchanges...
The reason we got so many members was that we were THE site for AMVs. We are not anymore. We're far down the list. You have to think about why they'd come here OVER the other sites that exist now, not why people came here back in the day. What do we (or will we) have to offer that the other websites don't?
As far as trying to keep the Org's existence on the down-low, we can have more activity or we can die out because we're scared of what that activity may bring. Videos advertising for the Org have been done before and were somewhat successful, (though ultimately lead to people being frustrated with the site, so I wouldn't recommend it again until there is a redesign). Videos get to the largest amount of people with a minimal amount of effort. Business cards have been tried, multiple times, unsuccessfully. And if you don't already know someone, sending them a random PM to join a website just looks like spam.

Re: Lack of activity in op exchanges...
Gene Starwind. The majority of people you refer to as /youtube editors/ are aware of the site, of course they are....there's so many videos over the years uploaded to youtube with a-m-v.org links in them, the a-m-v.org logo in them etc. Not long ago I posted the vca results on my facebook, with the a-m-v.org url top link, it has over 20k views...so that's quite a lot of people aware of the site from one facebook post alone, but it's not like they are rushing to come here just from being aware. The problem is bigger then simple awareness.
Also saying they use youtube for the instant gratification isn't necessarily true, if you want that the logical thing to do is pimp your video out everywhere: youtube, here, amvnews, reddit, studios forums and wherever else you can think of....not just youtube.
It's more likely most people stick to youtube, especially younger ones for it's ease of uploading and meeting new people - this website sucks in both areas.

Re: Lack of activity in op exchanges...
Don't get me wrong. I want to get my video out there too. However don't we want to have a community of editors, where people can come to these forums, chat and talk amongst other editors.
@Ileia - I should have clarified I meant editors you have already commented on and actually have talked to before on other sites.
As far as advertising after the redesign I hope it works. I love having the forums, I love the options I have had with this site. To me I haven't another site where I could get the feedback and help that I always get here.

That's how it would need to be advertised. As a place for learning and improving where you can get good feedback from other editors.Gene Starwind 21122 wrote:To me I haven't another site where I could get the feedback and help that I always get here.
