I feel like AMV editing has become a lot more egalitarian and is no longer focused around a core group of "elite" editors. Ask the popular editors on YouTube who Qwaqa or Umika is. Both very popular editors within our competitive sphere. It's likely they'll have no idea who they are.

I think Umika is one of the most known editors on youtube tbh, it seems almost impossible to believe that anybody who isn't closed off to genre/anime-specific videos only won't know that name...

I don't know if it's so much "egalitarianism" as the fact that YouTube doesn't promote editors as much as the videos themselves. I think it'd be more accurate to say that AMV viewers on YouTube probably know videos by qwaqa or Umika, but have no idea who made those videos.

That's the point I was trying to make, actually. It's become more about the product than the name behind it, which is rather unfortunate for editors.

No worries. I should have been more specific in my first post anyway

Umika's probably Kevin Caldwell.

I have no clue who Umika is either.
