The struggle.
(Aren't I just uber famous for starting these general amv threads of late?)
Ever have the struggle when you have all these wonderous ideas for amv's.. but you don't know which to make ? I have like 6 ideas floating around, 3 videos that aren't even finished and it's just crazy. Any thoughts community?

Sometimes I get way ahead of myself too and I'll have seven project going at the same time with none of them ever getting finished. The best advice I can give is to just pace yourself and only work on what you're most inspired to make. Sometimes you just have to take it one video at a time. If you get more ideas for other videos while already working on one, just write them down and come back to them when you're feeling more motivated to work on them.

Pretty much this. I think it's best to work only on one at a time and put the other projects on hold - while of course keeping those ideas around. Any new techniques you learn making one AMV can then be useful for the next and might even be the breakthrough you need to finish it.macchinainterna wrote:Sometimes I get way ahead of myself too and I'll have seven project going at the same time with none of them ever getting finished. Re: The struggle.
I just work on one project at a time. Even if I have more than one idea. Usually I'll prioritize them based off how easily I can get footage and audio lined up for the video. So if I don't already own the footage it may be a lower priority than something I do own. If it's between two ideas that I have footage for I may prioritize the ideas by if my footage is already made for one. So unless its something I really really want to make I usually sort the ideas out so I finish one and then start another and prioritize them on the ease of obtaining the footage I need for it. At least that's how I work on them. More than one idea at a time and I don't think I'd get anything done.

Re: The struggle.
I juggle tons of projects all at once, all at various stages of production/completion. This is both professional, personal, Youtube, and AMV related projects. In the end it's all about what I have time to work on, what I feel like working on, what needs to be worked on, and what mood I'm in to determine which actually gets edited at any point in time. I've been doing things this way for years.
As far as AMV making goes. What usually happens is I'll get an idea, vet it, and then begin work on pre-production (obtaining the source, converting it to utvideo for editing, pre-processing, and scene grabbing) as it's my least favorite part, often the slowest part, and I can do most of it while I'm sleeping or at work. Then once the source is ready I'll edit a project depending on which one I feel like working on at the time. I usually have at least 5 projects on the back burner at any point in time and often more just because of how often I get ideas. Some stay there for years (Dance 8 had been on the back burner for 3 years before I actually started it and then another 3 before I finished editing it) and others maybe only days.
My professional and youtube projects are even worse. Right now I have about 15 projects all at various stages of production.
The struggle is real...

I have an idea, open After Effects, realise I can't do it, and then give up. That way I don't end up with a bunch of ideas lying around.

Same as ng. I usually start off an idea to a point, then save the beta and file it away if I don't feel like getting it done at that point. Years later, I find myself picking up the old betas and finally finishing the video in full.

I'm sort of in that position. I have about 6 or 7 ideas. 3 of them I have a solid amount of notes on. That's why I have written them down on paper so I don't forget them. lol.
I'm working on a new video for Katsucon if I get it finished for it, and I'm working on my AWA Masters video for next year at the same time. So it's not unusual to start multiple projects, also remember there is no rush to make an AMV, unless you are trying to get it done for a specific convention.

Re: The struggle.
I've been in a constant state of AMV Idea Development since the day I started. I constantly listen to music 24/7, and I listen to music from various genres. Therefore, constantly thinking of amv ideas or song/source combos that would be dope. I work on tons of projects at once, too. That's a very bad habit though as many of my ideas wind up falling to the wayside because I'm just too swamped.
