I'd like After effects tutorials from YOU

I picked up adobe premiere CC and After effects CC, and the tutorials online don't help me one bit. I would like help from a fellow AMV maker, you can do such cool things with after effects, but I just don't know where to begin. Many tutorials, and I still feel like I have learned nothing. So anyone from the community here who'd like to teach me the ropes, I'd greatly appreciate it.

And to add on to what I've said, Here's a good example of stuff I'd like to learn how to do. And obviously, it doesn't happen in two seconds, but with hard work and dedication, I want to accomplish whatever my creativity sees fit.

I'm not sure what effect you are thinking about from that video, but the polygonal effect is done with a plugin called Plexus.

a tutorial is helpful once you learn to consume it the right way. i would suggest learning the idea of a tutorial, and trying to apply it to different things. i second the videocopilot tutorials that were linked above; it's where i started. andrew's explanations are really easy to understand and he teaches a thought process alongside the actual effect/result.

My friend IRL told me about the site too. I guess I really should check it out. I mean, my style of AMV's is simple. I make decent simple videos. But I wanna try to expand off of that simple path, because I've pretty much got the basics and ideology of making videos down. I'm ready to step up the game to brighter horizons. The way that I've learned programs throughout the years is by just playing around in them. I think it helps more, though, if you have a goal -- a single thing you'd like to achieve -- and then look up tutorials that tell you how to achieve that thing, or something close to it, and then tweak as necessary. Just looking at random tutorials isn't going to get you too far, it's going to be overwhelming and you're not going to know where to start.

I'd recommend checking out some of the basic tutorials for learning fundamental, useful tricks in AE that will make things easier down the road as you learn more advanced stuff and get an idea for single things you want to create. Things like parenting, compositions, track mattes, adjustment layers. I like the way this guy writes and there's lots of step-by-step stuff to make it really simple to understand, even if you don't have AE open to follow along.

Random tutorials for effects you'll probably never use won't get you too far.

Figure out a specific thing you want to put in your videos that requires AE and learn how to do that. 90% of the effects I use can be done with photoshop and premiere and I use AE for things it can do specifically (masking via rotobrush and making silly blood spurts with the particle playground come to mind).
