ATTENTION. ATTENTION.
Image

After some heavy consideration between me and my staff, we have decided to pull the "Best of Show" award and replace it with "Audience Favorite". In the past, our Best in Show was determined by audience vote only. We believe the title "Best of Show" should be awarded due to a certain number of factors - i.e. judges score, number of category votes, number of best in show votes, creator votes, etc. Unfortunately, we do not yet have a formula that would properly calculate these differentials. Also, we don't have enough creators attend to give any sort of technical impact. And finally, using the judges scoring as a factor would essentially abolish the Judges' Choice award.

^This is more/less how Anime Expo does Best of Show (u can correct me if I'm wrong troy). I hope this all makes sense. I'm a little sad we don't have the "ultimate" winner award anymore, but I feel it's the right decision. It may change in the future depending on how we grow and how long I stick around lol.

Oh btw, my Coordinator's Choice award is still on

Yes, more or less that's how it's done at AX, and even at our scale it's not a perfect system. For 2012 and 2014 determining the Best of Show winner got complicated.

You're making a wise choice.

Essentially nothing has changed, but the award is now titled what it actually is.

I always thought it was sorta implied. Kinda like how "best <category>" doesn't really mean a video was objectively the "best" at anything, just that more people chose it as what they voted for. Conceivably, if you convinced an audience to vote for what they hated in a category, it would still win that category, so you can't even argue a subjective concept of "best" to be literal. "Audience Choice <category>" is more accurate for every category, it just feels kinda... linguistically cumbersome. Unless you're doing some sort of double-award system for audience and judges at every level and you want to distinguish them.

That's what Fanime does actually. That's an interesting way to think about determining the category winners tho... I may let that fester in the back of my brain.
