I've been working on this video for months but various life stuff got in the way (i.e. losing my job). On the bright side, now that I'm unemployed I get to work on AMVs as much as I'd like, so I got to go back to this one.
I've been making videos for a while now but never really had the opportunity to receive feedback while working on a video. If you could, I would really appreciate it if you could take a look at my WIP video (the whole song is blocked in but I'm still calling it a WIP) and let me know what you think works, what's not working right now, and how to fix it if you could. Here's the download link: https://www.dropbox.com/s/8jab3ajx9tiik ... 7.mp4?dl=0
Stuff I'm particularly interested in hearing: How is the pacing of the video? What transitions are awkward and how should I fix them? Are the effects working or not? Are any clips not working and do you have any suggestions of what to replace them with? Most of all, how would you categorize this video? I initially thought it was going to be a funny video but it's clearly... not...
In exchange I'd love to take a look at a video for you! Let me know if you want feedback here or as an opinion on a-m-v.org.
Thanks in advance~
edit: Replaced the link; I've done a polish pass based on some of knage's feedback, mostly fixing up some of the timing, a few of the transition effects, and shot choices. I'm still interested in feedback though!

Re: 1:1 Feedback for my WIP Death Note video "Blank Space"
Opinion Please
So I want to start of and say I love the Idea of this AMV, my fave part was the beginning with L and Light, and the rest was good too because you had the lyrical sync. Though the song talks about the story of 2 people and you have 3, I don't mind it myself.
I think you need to make sure you hit the beat on things, for example when Light hits L you didn't put the beat on when he gets hit, that would be better. Also the only effect I noticed was the light flashes in the chorus most of the time, I think it's good but when you go into chorus with the flash I think you should extend the flash for lasting effect. As I said also, while you did match up all the lyrics in some way, it may jsut be a but randomized, because of a death with"breathless or a nasty scar" doesn't relate necessarily to the relationship I think(funny still). And yes, this is funny to me, I'd call it a parody, I mean are you kidding me? The relationship at the beginning with L and Light is so not that way but you make it so, I love that. I got a bias with the fact that I like this AMV so maybe I'm missing something but hopefully you get more feedback(this site is pretty bad at it)
Just saying, this is oen of those AMVs to me that I actually enjoyed seeing throughout the end, I wasn't waiting for it to pass by, and everything is simple but still, I say good job.
Last tip, if you want opinions or feedback it's best to post to other peoples WIP or 1:1, because people post an topic and don't look at videos themselves rather then wait for others to see theirs, it's easier the other way around.

Okay knage, I left you an opinion on your video. Thanks for sharing with me!
Yeah I don't tend to use a lot of effects... this video has a lot for me, but it's limited to blend modes and some things like the levels blowout flash. I'll take another look at the timing to make sure everything's hitting right. I think for some of the lyrics matching, I sometimes had a hard time finding things that fit... especially for Misa, who has a very limited role in the anime. @_@;; Originally I was going to make a whole video about just Light and L, but the second part of the song fit Misa perfectly, and in the end it kind of became a summary of the whole series...
Thanks for the advice, I'm new here so I'm not sure how things tend to work out. I'll try responding to other threads.

Yea just seen it, good luck with completing your AMV. Just for reference, the reason I did colour at the end is because I don't want AMVs with no colour. Colours makes things more enjoyable in my opinion, even though this AMV needs to be sand I still think it was better to end with colour.Tigrin wrote:Okay knage, I left you an opinion on your video. Hmm. Personally, I think if you're going to start out a video in black and white, and introduce color later, it should have a particular reason that serves the storytelling. An obvious one to me would be to keep the shots where the girls are feeling lost or holding back in black and white, and slowly start bringing in color as they start fighting back. Color is a very conscious choice and brings a lot of emotion with it. The song talks about standing your ground and learning to let emotion flow and using it to your advantage. I'd definitely consider how to use color to serve that message. I've done this in reverse for videos before, where I used B&W briefly to emphasize characters feeling detached, upset, or disconnected. I think it can work.knage wrote:Yea just seen it, good luck with completing your AMV. Just for reference, the reason I did colour at the end is because I don't want AMVs with no colour.
